Chapter 45

I was woken by the sound of knocking on my door. I lazily opened my eyes and saw that I was alone in my bed. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and looked towards the door.

"One minute." I called, forcing myself out of bed. I opened the door and my heart rate picked up.

"Get dressed and find Nico. You have an appointment." Emily informed me, turning away from me and walking downstairs. I sighed.

She's so pissed.

I turned into my room and shut and locked the door. I heard the toilet flush and Nico humming to himself. I sighed and ripped off my shirt and stood in front of my full length mirror.

If you didn't know what a pregnant belly looked like, you would have thought that I was just gaining weight. I curled up the edge of my sports bra and ran my hand over my belly.

I wonder if its a boy or a girl?

I was jolted from my thoughts, when Nico came out of the bathroom still humming. When he turned and saw my shirtless, he looked at me confused.

"What are you doing?" He asked, placing his hands at my waist.

"Just looking at my self." I told him.

"We have an appointment today. So go get ready." I told him, giving him a gentle kiss on the lips.

"Great." He mumbled, picking his shirt up off the ground and a mumbling something about stupid mothers before he walked out. I shook my head, chuckling as I made my way to my closet.

I leafed through the clothes and found a pair of grey sweatpants and a plain green T-shirt. I brushed my hair out and pulled into a ballerina bun and then ran some cover up over my face that was currently breaking out.

I sighed. This was going to be very stressful.

I have the slightest bump, and butterflies right now. The lady at the desk told us that when he is ready, Dr. Cameron will come get us.

I was clutching onto Nico's hand when the door swung open and a very nice looking doctor came through. She smiled at me and then looked to my belly.

"You must be Phoenix?" She asked in a calm, gentle voice. My nerves instantly went away as I nodded.

"I am Doctor Cameron and I will be doing your ultrasound today." She stuck her hand out to me, and I shook it, standing with Nico and Emily.

"Emily! Its so good to see you again! How's the family?" Emily smiled at the lady and nodded her head.

"They're good. This is one of my eldest," She gestured towards Nico, disapprovingly. "Nico. and, obviously his girlfriend Phoenix." I saw Dr. Cameron's face drop for a second before she smiled again.

"Well follow me, I'll take you back there." She told us, walking towards the doorway she had just come through. She led us down a hallway and then to the fifth room on the right.

"Lay on the bed and raise your shirt to your chest, I'm going to be putting some stuff on your belly so that I can see the baby in the ultrasound." She informed me, and I did as I was told.

She applied some cool gel onto my belly and then ran an object over my belly as I held onto Nico's hand. I closed my eyes and listened to everything around me.

Then I heard it.

The whooshing, thump sound.

My babies heartbeat.

I opened my eyes and turned to the screen to see the little head. Tears instantly pricked at my eyes. I turned and saw both Nico and Emily had tears in their eyes.
