My Hero

Chapter 9

I woke, my eyes puffy and my face stuff from dry tears. I looked around and noticed I was in my room. Hmm? I don't remember going into my room. I groggily got up and made my way to the bathroom to take a shower and wash my face. I let the warm water run over my body and cleaned my hair quickly. Today was not going to be a good day. All I'm going to be thinking of is my dad and if he's ok. I gave my letter to Emily last night when she came to say good night to me and Nico.

I dried my hair and cleaned off my face, free of makeup and going all natural.

I dressed in a pair of black leggings and a long tank top with tons of colors on it. I brushed out my hair and let it do what it wanted too.

I walked into the kitchen, finding it easier than usual. Jayden, Cody and Emmett all said good morning but I didn't answer back, I had my Tort and my daddy blanket and my phone, that's all I wanted at the moment. And some food. I really was hungry. I shuffled through the pa try and got some chips and went off to find the tv room, hopefully it would be empty.

"Austin?" I said into the phone.

"Phoenix? Is that you?" His voice suddenly becoming

happier.

"Mmhm."

"What's wrong?"

"My dad called yesterday to say goodbye. He was sitting in a fox hole Austin! A freaking fox hole! He said they were going into war any minute and the next thing I knew, there was a loud bang in the background he said he loved me and hung up."

"Oh wow, I didn't realize it would be this early." I shook my head.

"Me neither. He called me like two days after I got here and he wrote and I got the letter yesterday."

"That's good."

"Yeah but if he's in war he won't be able to do it anymore."

"It's ok Phoenix, he'll write and just remember he's doing it for your mom." I nodded my head.

"That doesn't make it any better. If I loose him I don't know what I'll do?" He sighed.

"Daisy says hi." I suddenly perked up.

"Tell her I love her and I miss her!" I said eagerly.

"She says dido." I heard yelling in the back. "She says she loves you an misses you too." I laughed, when the door to the empty tv room opened.

"Austin I gotta go, I love you. Miss you." He chuckled.

"Love and miss you too, bye." Then in a couple seconds, the line went dead. I turned to face Nico. My heart rate picked up cause I have no clue what happened last night, everything was a blur.

He came over and sat next to me. "Everything alright?" I nodded my head.

"Just talking to some friends from back home." He nodded his head too, turning his attention to the tv.

Suddenly we heard yelling and a loud crash from upstairs. Both of us took off running towards the noise.

"I'm tired of you always asking me the same damn question! It's so aggravating! I think I know when to take my meds!" I rolled my eyes. I've had to deal with this plenty of times before.

"If I can get him alone without Matt or anyone, I can calm him down, you know I kinda know how to handle this." I whispered up to Nico. He nodded his head and went towards Matt to try and pull him away.

"Let us handle it dad, it will have a much better outcome." I heard a door slam shut and Sage had disappeared into his bedroom. I walked over to his door and knocked.
