Chapter 4: Our First Date
I look at my watch while I sit under the bid shady oak by the pond. It's only three o'clock and Travis isn't picking me up until 7. I can barely stand the wait. I just want to see him, to hear his voice, his smile, his laugh, his eyes. Everything about him is perfect. It also makes me wonder... Why me? He could have any girl, yet he decides to go on a date with me.
I stand up and decide to take the long way home. Since I'm wearing my jeans and boots I decide I will be fine cutting through the wheat field. It's about a mile back home when I take this route.
45 minutes later I am home. This leaves me 3 hours and 15 minutes to get ready.
I walk to my closet and start looking through it... plaid shirts, tshirts, jeans.. I have nothing to wear. I keep rummaging through my closet until I come across a dress I have never worn before. Its a black floral tea length dress. Perfect for the occasion. I decide to pair it with my favorite jean jacket, and once again my favorite tan leather boots. I lay it on my bed then make my way to my bathroom.
I've decided I look best with curly hair so I curl it once again. This time though I make sure every curl is perfect and in place.
When I'm finally done with my curls, I decide to put makeup on on. This time I put a little more effort into getting ready. I apply a thin layer of BB cream across my face. I decide on a pale pink eye shadow that goes with the pink flowers on my dress. Next I put a tiny bit of eyeliner on. Finally I curl my long eyelashes, and apply mascara.
I head back to my room to get dressed. Its already 6:45, It takes me a good hour and a half to curl my long, thick hair. Once I'm dressed I look myself over in the mirror, but it feels like something's missing. I remember my favorite necklace, my grandmother gave it to me before she passed away. It's a beautiful necklace it has a teardrop shaped turquoise pendant on a thin silver necklace. It goes perfectly with the pale blue and pink flowers on my dress. But it looks even better with my eyes in my opinion. I didn't even notice how long I had been staring at my reflection until I hear the doorbell ring.
He's here.
I make my way down the stairs, and I hear my father answer the door. Oh no. I remember the first time Cameron brought Jackson home, my dad was so unfriendly; but my sister got lucky because Jackson stayed. I on the other hand had no idea how Travis would react. My first chance at having an actual boyfriend, and it's gone.
I hear Travis' voice, "Hello sir, I'm Travis Marquet. It's nice to meet you."
"The pleasure is mine, call me Alan." I'm shocked at my fathers response. When I get downstairs Travis is staring at me, and he starts to smile. My stomach immediately erupts into butterflies. I smile back at him.
"I see you've met my father. Alright well should we get going?"
"That would be great," He smiles at me.
"Okay, well don't wait up Dad," I Tell my father.
"Okay, but make sure you get my daughter home safe and sound." He Kisses me on the cheek and Travis and I exit my house.
Travis immediately opens up his truck door for me, I thank him and climb in. Travis starts up the car and then pulls onto the road. "Drunk on you" by Luke Bryan is on the radio. Travis places his hand on my thigh. I almost can't control my excitement, I swear my heart is racing a mile a minute.
"So where are we going?"
"That's for me to know and you to find out," He grins at me and I can't help but smile back.
..........
I'm surprised when we pull up to a pond. It's similar to mine but a little bit bigger. I get out of the truck and Travis pulls out a picnic basket and blanket out of the back of the truck.
He picks a spot under a big Maple tree and lays the blanket down. I sit down on the blanket and he sits down right next to me. He pulls a small mason jar out of the basket. It has a candle in it and he lights it up. I can't believe he's doing this all for me. This is like a scene out of a book or movie.
"I know it's nothing exciting, but-" I cut him off.
"It's perfect, thank you." I smile at him and he starts to laugh. I'm really confused at this point. "What's funny?"
"It's just that you're nothing like other girls, you're so simple; and you're also easy to talk to."
I start to blush. He starts running his fingers through his hair,"I just want to know you better Melody." I can barely contain myself at this point. "I feel the exact same way Travis."
"So I packed sandwiches and salad... I hope that's okay.."
"That's great I was actually having a craving for a sandwich this afternoon." He chuckles when I say that. We make small talk about town while we enjoy our meal. When we're finished he stands up. That was a quick date... Maybe he realized that I'm nothing special. I can feel my heart breaking inside.
"Will you dance with me?"
I feel like jumping up and down and screaming inside but luckily I am able to keep myself under control. I start to giggle, "There's no music." He runs over to his truck and turns on the radio. Travis also turns the headlights on so it's like a spotlight. I feel my face heat up and I start blushing.
"Wanted" by Hunter Hayes is on. Much like the night before Travis puts his hands on my waist and my hands go on his neck and we just sway to the music, looking into each others eyes. I put my head on his chest. He responds by putting his head on my head. He sings along to the song, as if he was singing to me .
"I wanna wrap you up, wanna kiss your lips, I wanna make you feel wanted, I wanna call you mine forever..."
I close my eyes and enjoy the moment . He's perfect, he's more than everything I need, he's everything I've ever wanted; I think I've finally found my Prince Charming.
The song ends and another begins to play but I can't focus on the song because all I can think about are the words coming out of his mouth.
"Will you be mine Melody?"
"As in your girlfriend?"
He nods and I reply by connecting our lips.
