Chapter 13: You Should've Said No

Travis' POV:

I quickly hug Meg goodbye so I can get home to Melody. For the last month and a half I've been designing an engagement ring with my friend Meg. She happens to be a jewelry designer and she's been meeting up with me. Today I needed to pick up the ring and that's why I had to leave Melody for a little while on our anniversary. I can't wait to propose tonight. I am a complete ball of nerves.

I quickly get in the truck and drive home.

.....

"Hey babe. I'm home."

No reply. That's weird. Maybe she's playing hard to get or hide and seek. She often makes it a game for me to find her when I get home. My first thought is to check the bedroom. But when I get there I see a coupon for the local motel and a note on her pillow. It reads: 'I hope she makes you feel the way you made me feel'.

Shit. She must've seen me outside the motel with Meg. I have been meeting Meg there because she's been coming in from out of town, and I didn't want Melody to catch on to me planning a proposal.

She left. But she's gotta come back right? Once she hears me out?  I can only hope for the best when I drive to her house.

....

I lightly knock on the door. No reply. I keep knocking until Sharol answers. I honestly can't stand Melody's mother.

"I suggest you leave right now."

"I swear it's not what it looked like. I need to talk to her. I can explain."

"There's nothing to explain. Get off my property."

Suddenly I hear Alan talking, "Travis this was the last straw. Please leave."

"No not until I see her. I love her-"

Sharol cuts me off, "You love her? How can you cheat on my daughter and then tell me you love her. You make me sick."

Then Melody appears at the door, "Mom can you give us a second."

Sharol and Alan both shoot me dirty looks, then walk away.

"Thank you babe for hearing me out, I-" She cuts me off.

"Save it Travis. I'm done." She then slammed the door in my face leaving me with a shocked expression.

Great! Now what?

I walk back to my truck and call the only person I can think of. Cameron.

"You have some nerve calling me." I can hear the anger through the phone.

"Just give me one minute to explain. Please."

"You have one minute. Go."

"I have been meeting with an old high school friend who's a jewelry designer. She's from out of town so we've been meeting at the motel every few weeks. She's been helping me design an engagement ring. That's it I swear."

"You mean.. You were going to propose?"

"No. I AM going to propose."

"Good luck with that. She's never going to talk to you again."

"Cam, please help me. I can't lose her over something I didn't even do. I need her to listen to me."

"What do you want me to do?"

"Call her maybe? Tell her you're taking her out and then bring her to the barn where the hoedown was at 7."

"Alright, but you better be telling me the truth or I'm going to kick your ass."

"I promise, it's the truth."

"Alright, Bye."

"Thank you, bye."

Now I just need to go set things up for the proposal. I know she's going to listen. She has to listen.
