Chapter 5: Getting to Know You

Travis and I had been seeing eachother for a good two weeks now. Every night we went on a date whether it was a movie or dinner at the local cafe. I told him that I wanted to arrange our date for tonight. I feel like even though we've been seeing eachother very frequently we still don't know much about one another.

Tonight I decided that I would show him my favorite spot. The pond. I packed a dinner very similar  to the one we ate on our first date. I told Travis to meet me at 8:00 so it was dark enough to lay under the stars. When he arrives I blindfold him.

"Why do you need to blindfold me? "

"What if we aren't together for much longer? I can't have people knowing a top secret location of one of my favorite places."

"Okay if you insist..."

"Thank you." I kiss him on the cheek and lead him to the pond.

(At the pond)

"That was a great dinner. Thanks Mel." He smiles and kisses me softly on the lips. But I notice his smile doesn't reach his eyes.

"Is something wrong babe?"

"No everything is great." I know better though. I cup his head in my hands so he's forced to look me in the eyes.

"Come on Trav, you can't fool me."

"What you said earlier... Did you mean it?" Now I'm just confused, I have no idea what he's talking about.

"I don't follow..."

"You said 'What if we're not together much longer?'... Were you just kidding?" I see how worried he is, but I wasn't actually kidding...

"I figured you're going to get bored with me. You can have any girl you want, but you chose boring old me. I just assume it's bound to happen." After I say that I can tell he's a little hurt by what I said.

"How could you even think that? You're the perfect girl for me. I love you Melody." He just said he loved me! He's never said that before. I can't help but feel stupid for what I just said.

"I love you too Travis." His face pulls into a big grin, he then connects our lips. We sit there for a while just moving our lips together in rythym. How does he always smell like mint? We sit there it's more than our usual soft and gentle kiss. It's aggressive and full of passion. His tongue moves across my lips asking for entrance. At first I am a little scared because it was so new to me. I give in and he pulls me closer. We explore eachothers mouths. It is beyond perfect. I am so in love with him. Things start getting more and more heated he lays me on my back  but our mouths stay connected. At first I think nothing of it while he straddles my hips because his hands weren't touching me. But then he presses his hand on my thigh and starts sliding my dress up.

I know I love Travis. But I'm not ready to give him something as precious at my virginity. I break away from our kiss and catch my breath. That doesn't stop him though, his lips just  move to my neck. Oh god, the things this boys does to me... Focus Melody, focus.

"Travis..." I say my voice quivering. He just moans back in reply. "I.. I'm a virgin..." He looks up at me apologetically. 

"I'm sorry.. I'm just not ready. Oh gosh this is so embarrasing." I sit up and put my head between my knees so I can't see his face.

"It's alright Melody. I can wait, it's nothing to be embarrased about. I love you, and I'm sorry I pressured you." He pulls me onto his lap and I look up at him. 

"I understand if you don't want to see me anymore-" He cuts me off. 

"Why would I not want to see you anymore?"

"Because I'm not willing to give you what you want..."

"That's what you think? Oh babe, you've got it so wrong. Yes I would love to be your first. But what I really want is you, and only you. I'm in love with you and I can wait until you're ready." Tears start rolling down my cheeks. I am such an idiot.

"Thank you," I whisper.

We sit there in silence for a while. I lay down on my back to look up at the stars,and Travis does the same, but he intertwines our fingers together. Then he speaks up,

"Let's play 20 questions so we can get to know eachother a little better. Sound good?"

"That sounds perfect, I'll start... Do you have any siblings?"

"I have a Twin brother named Dean, I already know you have a older sister named Cameron... Hmm.. Favorite Movie?"

"You're gonna laugh at me..." 

"I promise I won't. Pinky promise." His pinky squeezes mine which makes my face turn into a big grin.

"It's the little mermaid..." He looks like he's about to start laughing but instead he just smiles.

"Good to know."

"Okay my turn. Favorite season?"

"Winter," He replies.

"Me too. I love the cold and the way the snow makes everything look. There's something magical in the air around Christmas time."

He laughs at me and I start blushing. "No need to blush babe, I just think you're  cute. I agree on the winter thing. Everything about the season is just perfect. Okay my turn, Favorite pet to have?"

"I love boxers. Their my favorite dog breed I once had a Boxer named Cash. He was the best dog I've ever had. Biggest fear?"

"Either you leaving me, or spiders."

I punch him in the arm for that one. I lean over and kiss him afterwards. "But who's going to kill the spiders if we both are scared of them?"

"Are you suggesting I get over my second biggest fear, just so you don't have to kill a spider?" I give him my best puppy dog face, which makes him smile. Then he starts  to tickle me . I burst into fits of laughter, but he doesn't stop. "I guess that answers my next question, biggest weakness." I continue to laugh and laugh; he finally stops after I start begging. He asks me another question,

"What do you do for a living?"

"I read manuscripts for a publishing company and then if they're any good I send it in to be reviewed by an editor. What about you?"

"I'm a lawyer, but I think I'm going to go into agriculutre because of all the land I inherited. Maybe you can show me the ropes?" He grins at me. 

"I might be able to arrange something, being a farmers daughter after all.." I wink at him. 

"I'm going to take you up on that offer." He grins and leans in to kiss me. We just stare at the stars in silence, while he holds me in his arms. I don't even realize all of the time that's passed. Because in that moment everything was perfect and suddenly all of the love songs were about us.

I know things are moving pretty fast for Trelody/Mavis but there is a lot more important stuff that's going to happen later on so that's why their relationship is moving at such a fast pace.
