Chapter 3: Everything Has Changed

 

After our slow dance, I excused myself for a minute. Travis looked hesitant to me getting fresh air by myself. I quickly assured him I would be fine, because nothing ever happens in this boring town.

I go out back and sit on a hay bale. I take a deep breath and look up at the stars.I think back to how close we were. How it felt. His strong arms wrapped around my waist, even if he wasn't mine, in that moment I felt like I was his.

I jump when I hear the crunch of someone walking on the dry grass. I smile when I realize its Travis.

"I just wanted to make sure you were okay..."

"I'm great, I just came out here to think."

"If you don't mind me asking, what are you thinking about? "

"My life I guess, tonight, the past, maybe the future..."

Travis is now sitting next to me on the hay.

"Do you think maybe I might.. be apart of your.. future? " He hesitantly asks.I can feel him blushing even though its dark out and I can't see that well.

"I think there's a good chance." I smile at him. Before I know whats happening Travis' face is moving closer to mine. Suddenly our lips connect.

My first kiss.

It's perfect. Everything I've ever wanted and more.

His lips are soft against mine, in short and sweet movements. I can taste the mint, and I love it. He pulls me closer and wraps his strong and toned arms around me. I move my fingers through his soft sandy colored hair. How can someones lips be so perfect?

After a few minutes we pull away, taking a breath.

"Will you go on a date with me tomorrow evening? "

I simply nod my head yes and reply with a quick peck on his lips.

I open my eyes the following morning and smile. I recall all the events of last night. The dancing, the kiss, and our future date. Last night was perfect, and I get butterflies just thinking about it.

My phone buzzes and I pick it up off the night stand.

 

Travis: morning beautiful ;) can't wait for our date tonight!

 

I sigh happily, glad we exchanged numbers the previous night. I quickly type a reply:

 

Me: You're so sweet :) I can't wait either! xoxo

 

I put my phone down, and for once I am actually happy to start the day. I realize within the span of a night that everything has changed. I smile at the thought and embrace my new found  happiness.
