Chapter 29: Change of Color

I woke up with a new attitude the next morning. I am not going to keep sitting around waiting for things to get better. I don't need Travis; and he obviously doesn't need me. He would have come after me if he actually loved me...

Anyways...

Today is Saturday. So now work! Yay... now I have even more time to sit around and mope; but today I am actually going to get up and do something.

First up... Breakfast at Tiffany's!

....

When I'm finished living my Aubrey Hepburn moment I stroll down New York Avenue.

I see a beauty salon and before I know what I'm doing I stroll through the door. A  nice lady at the counter asks if I need help.

"I was thinking a cut and  color if you have any room."

"Yeah sure! No problem!"

She shows me to a waiting room. I honestly have no idea what I'm doing. I think I need a change. I think I will go blonde. Not platinum, but maybe a nice honey color. That should look good with my eyes. I'll get bangs too!

Today I will become a new woman!

.....

After a few hours of being pampered I look at my new reflection.

I look completely different.

The girl in the mirror doesnt look like the girl she was this morning.

She looks stronger, happier, more confident. I look like I have a different outlook on life than I actually do.

That really did make a difference.

I feel like I'm being ridiculous it's just a hair color.

.....

Travis' POV:

So it's Wednesday and I have my first therapy session today. Let's just say I am not looking forward to it.

I walk in to the church to see Pastor Brad. He's a nice old man probably in his fifties.

I shake his hand.

"Nice to see you again Travis," He says.

"Likewise."

"Shall we get started?"

"Sure."

"Follow me."

He leads me outside to a small patio that they must use for church functionings.

We sit down.

"Did you know that this is Melody's church?"

"Um... No. I thought... I don't know. Wait how'd you know about Melody I never gave you a name."

"Son, this is a small town."

"Right..." I guess that slipped my mind.

"You probably don't know where to start do you son?"

"No clue."

"I think we need to start with your relationship with God."

"How is that going to help me get my wife back?"

"You'd be surprised. Do you trust me?"

"Yeah I guess."

"Alright then meet me at the community pond at five am tomorrow. Don't be late."

"Five am?"

"I don't believe I stuttered."

"So are we dont for today then?"

"Yup. Tomorrow bright and early."

"Alright.. How much do I owe you?"

"Nothing. I'm not doing this for the money. I'm doing this because I see something that needs to be fixed woth God's grace. How can something be fixed with his grace if I am greedy?"

"Errr... I don't know..."

"See you tomorrow Travis." And with that he walked off.

What a strange old man.

.....

One Week Later.... (It's now around September)

For the past week I've been meeting Pastor Brad everyday. He has really taught me a lot. I can feel my faith starting to grow.

He has become a good friend; and the father figure I have never had.

I think I'm finally coping with my brother's death.

He gave me an outline of how I'm going to become a better husband:

Step 1) Make peace with my brother's death.

Step 2) Accept that God has an ultimate plan, and establish faith in it.

Step 3) Love God with all that I am.

He says that once I've completed those 3 steps then I will be a better man.

Step one is almost complete. He says most of the time this process will take about four months. Which gives me a few weeks to plan my approach towards Melody.

I just hope she can recognize my efforts.
