The truth is out

I froze at the mention of Jaz' name. Especially coming from a child.

"Kids! Come with Daddy and let Uncle Alden finish their breakfast." Matt broke the awkward silence thats starting to build up around us.

"I want Tita Maine to come with us. Ill show you my barbies." Rose grabbed Maines hand and started pulling her.

Sofia was about to scold at the child but Maine stood up and said, "that would be nice! We just need to walk slowly because I injured my foot." Maine explained to Rose. And they left.

"Dont take it against David, Alden. He probably remember Jaz from way back the last time we visited in Manila."

"I didnt realize he still remember."

"David adores you, Alden. I guess thats why he still remember. Are you okay?"

"Im fine."

"Hows Jaz?"

"Shes fine, I guess."

"Does she knows you brought a friend here with you in London?"

"No. I just met Maine in the airport."

"And shes staying in your apartment?"

"Yes."

"When are you going to tell this arrangement to Jaz?"

"Sofia..."

"Theres something wrong and youre not telling me."

"Dont you think Maine looks like Jaz?" I asked to change the topic.

"What do you mean?"

"They look a like."

"No they dont, Alden."

"They dont?"

"No." Sofia touched my hand and said, "Alden, you know you can tell me anything, right?"

"Jaz has a a boyfriend now. I needed a break because I worked with both of them." There. I said it.

The silence that came next was more comforting than awkward. I guess, Sofia was waiting for me to explain further.

"I adore her, Sofia, and she broke my heart. I guess I just wanted to get away for awhile."

"Im so sorry to hear this Alden. I hope you dont use Maine as a rebound."

"Shes just a friend, Sam. She literally fell on my arms in the airport and, well, she needed my help. There had a mixed up in her hotel reservation. I needed company on my vacation. Its a win-win situation."

"I see. I guess, I just wanted you to be careful. Thats all. And Im really sorry about Jaz. She seems to be a great woman."

"She is." Its true. She just didnt chose me.

"Okay. So if youre here to forget about Jaz, lets start right away. Take those kids in the park so I can clean up a bit here before your Dad arrived. Dont bring Matt with you. I need his help."

Thats how Sofia is, shes good at giving orders. And when stuff are hard to fanthom, its always best to clean the house. I smiled at her.

"Yes, Ma'am." I even saluted her, relieved that this conversation is finally over.

The kids were ecstatic when I told them we will bring them to the nearest park. Maine was playing with Rose.

"Tita Maine, lets bring my barbies in the park. We can play there." It seems it was decided both kids grabbed their sweater and went ahead of us.
