My Prize

She lay on my chest, she looks so contented when she sleeps like this. Her hand sits on my stomach. Shes no longer clutching my shirt like she used to. I had my left hand comfortably embracing her.

I wanted to sleep because we need to get going early tomorrow for our flight, but my mind is wide awake.

After our walk in the park, I called my Mom and she and Maine talked the entire time. Maine already posted the dubsmash video she made of us in front of the Notting Hill bookshop and they were chatting about it.

"How did you convinced him to do the video?" Mom asked, I was frowning besides Maine.

"Naku, Tita mabait naman tong si Alden... Ay Frank nga pala! Pero cute naman diba Tita? Nakasimangot na tong katabi ko akala ata pinagtatawanan natin sya."

"I enjoyed watching it!" And then she laughed.

"Mom!"

"Tama si Maine, anak! Cute yung video nyo. You should do more of it often."

"Mom naman!"

"Bukas nga pala Tita pupunta kami sa Liverpool. One week kami dun."

"I dont think nakarating na si Frank sa Liverpool."

"Eh kasi Mom itong si Maine mahilig sa Beatles."

"Talaga ba, Maine?"

"Opo. Super fan talaga ako."

"Well, sigurado mag-eenjoy kayo sa Liverpool."

"Sigurado po yun! Sa airport pa lang Im sure makakarami na ko ng picture!"

"Kita mo Mom? Adik talaga!" Maine took a jab on my side and although Mom didnt see it, she saw my reaction and knew what just happened. She smiled at us.

"Tita kumusta nga po pala si Tito?"

"Naliligo na. Ewan ko ba sa Tito mo, Maine, you would think kuntento na sya sa mga business nya dyan at dito. Stable naman ang kita eh. Pero workaholic pa din. May early meeting yun kaya ang aga gising na."

"Pareho po sila ni Matt."

"Yan din namang si Frank. Buti nga naisipan magbakasyon." She looked worried at me. I know shes thinking of the reason why I took my vacation.

"Im fine, Mom."

"Maine, hija, ikaw na muna mag-alaga dyan sa anak ko ha?"

"Dont worry, Tita. Hes in good hands." She winked at my Mom and grinned at me.

"Sige na. I needed to get going na din. Anak, take care of Maine, hijo. Shes a good woman." And we hanged up.

I sighed. I would love to have a heart to heart talk with my Mom about Maine. I know Im no longer hanged up with Jaz. I hardly think of her already. Even I am surprise by how easily Im starting to forget about her.

I have been in love with her for more than five years and I built my world around her. When she confirmed to me that shes in love with Richard, I cried. She broke my heart and it hurt me to a point that I wanted to leave work.

It was Tere that suggested I take this vacation when I handed my resignation to her.

"Irrevocable and in effect immediately." I said to Tere when I handed her my resignation.

"Why? You have done a lot for this company. I thought you were happy with us. Do you need a raise?"

"No, Tere. I just... I just cant work here anymore."
