Oh here we go...

"Mom, it's only 5:30, and I'm wet because it was...well is raining out."

I defended myself as I placed Nathan down so he could do his thing.

"Don't get wise with me missy, now go change out of those damp clothes, dinner will be ready soon.. And your father and I need to speak to you."

She insisted then turned around back to her cooking. I stuck my tongue out at her, of course she wouldn't notice, but it gave me enough satisfaction. I stomped my way out of the kitchen and up the twisted staircase. I strolled down the hallway until I reached my bedroom door. I jerked it open and shut it behind myself with a slight nudge. I make my way over to my dresser and pull out a pair of yoga shorts and a matching tank top from Pink. I discarded my previous clothing and tossed them into the hamper. I pulled the shorts up my legs till they reached my waist where they belong, then pulled the tank top over my bare stomach. I walked into the bathroom that connects to my room, yes I have my own bathroom. I grabbed a hair tie that was on the sink counter top and pulled my hair up into a messy bun. I glimpsed at myself in the mirror viewing my outfit. I have blonde hair with some darker natural highlights through it. My eyes are blue but not the lightest color of blue. I am around five feet, five inches. I wouldn't say I'm the skinniest girl out there but I'm pretty thin. I did a couple poses in the mirror then trudged my way out of the bathroom.

"Madison, momma says dinner is ready."

Nathan spoke shyly as he fiddled with his little toddler fingers. Usually big sisters pick on their little brothers, but Nathan isn't one of the out of control, obnoxious toddlers, he is actually quite mature for his age. But when he wants something... He gets it. No doubt about that one.

"Alright, lets go eat then huh." I smirked kneeling down to his level and poking his tummy playfully. He let out a little laugh before running out of the room. I giggled by his actions and follow him out of the room and soon down the stairs. I turn on my feet and walk into the dining room where we eat our dinner. My mom sat firmly in her seat beside my dad, and Nathan across from them. I entered the room and sat down beside Nathan. I moved my attention from the food and looked at my parents who were eyeing me.

"What? Did I do something?"

I questioned leaning back in my seat.

"Not that we know of, no."

My mom responded quite bluntly placing a few spoon fills of mashed potato on to her plate then my dads as he placed a piece of chicken on their plates casually. I gave her a confused look of where she was going with that statement but I for one would rather not start arguing, mostly because Nathan is here.. And the fact that our parents fight constantly, I try to keep him away from conflict as best as I can.

My dad handed me the serving plate containing the chicken to take. I carefully handled the plate in my hand as I placed a piece on to my plate then Nathan's. I placed the server plate back down on the table and put some potatoes on our plates. I started to cut his chicken into bite sized pieces so he could eat them. I gave him a nod and handed him a fork for him to eat with. We began eating our food in silence, the contact of the silver wear touching the plates seemed to be the only noise to occur.

"So Nathan, how was daycare today? Learn anything new?"

My father broke the silence of distress and awkwardness.

"Yeah! We're learning how to write things, like animals, and numbers."

He smiled widely showing his adorable baby teeth.

"Really? Mind sharing some names of animals?"

He asked Nathan who had a smile plastered to his little face. Why is my dad so interested in any of this? Usually he full out ignores us and talks to my mom about work and stuff. He was hiding something... I know it. I focused on my dad trying to figure out his expression as Nathan was randomly naming all kinds of animals. His emotion seemed almost guilty.. He only looks that way when.... No... He's doing it again.

"You and mom are leaving again this summer... Aren't you?"

I glared at them with disbelief. I'm really not surprised, they do this every summer as I explained before. But I really would think after how many times it has made Nathan upset that they would at least consider staying.

Nathan completely closed his mouth from speaking. Crap.. He must have heard me.

"Madison, your father was talking to your brother, it is rude to interrupt a conversation."

My mom scolded totally if morning what I had said. I've had it.. I'm not going to keep letting them mess with Nathans feelings like that. I dropped my fork on my plate making a clatter noise getting everybody's attention.

"No... Mom, you want to know what's rude?"

I said harshly folding my arms obviously in a angry tone.

"I said your father and I would talk later Madison."

She barked at me signaling her eyes to Nathan since he was in the room. Yeah sure, now you won't argue in front of him.

"No! If you want to talk to me, you can talk now! I think it's only fair you say it in front of Nathan since it involves him."

I started as I raised myself out of my chair.

"You do this every summer! You and dad go on a blissful vacation, and get away from everyone. Even your own kids.. You make me spend my summers in this house to watch him and take him to daycare and wherever else he needs to go while you two are god knows where sipping your fancy wine and champagne! Do you ever once think of someone besides yourselves?! HUH?! I should be out with friends having fun but no I can't, because you make me watch him for you! Do you not see how this effects him? You do this every time! And it tears him apart each time! I have to tell him you two are at work working late but really you're off enjoying your time away from us! It seems as though I'm more of a parent to him then you two ever could be!"

I finished shouting as my chest rose up and down from my heavy uneven breathing. Their faces... Blank and shocked by my outburst. On the other hand, Nathan was on the verge of tears.

"M-mommy, I-is that t-true?"

He stuttered as he looked at her with a quivering lip. She didn't say a word... She just bowed her head in disappointment. He began shaking his head and got up from his seat and stumbled over to me and hugged on to my leg.

"Madison Anne! Go to your room right now!"

My dad yelled slamming his clenched fist on to the table. I scoffed loudly and picked up Nathan in my arms.

"Don't be mad because you know I'm right."

I spat as I carried Nathan in my arms bringing him up the stairs with me.
