liana's pov

I hadn't seen Luke since we texted last night, and I was kind of anxious. It was only the morning though and this is a big school. When I did see him, what would happen? I wasn't sure if I should start talking to him first, or if he would even acknowledge me in person. What if he only wanted to talk to me over text and not in school? Maybe he didn't want to ruin his image. He is pretty cool and popular here. He might not want to be seen in public with an awkward bean like me.

I knew I would see Luke in third period, if he was at school today. (Why wouldn't he be?) I was bracing myself. When I walked into class, he wasn't there yet. I took a deep breath of relief. Maybe he's not here so I don't have to worry about what I was going to say, if anything. I'm so much better at communicating when I'm already close friends with the person or if it's over text or social media. So in person, to Luke I'll probably be weird and shy. Better save that for another day.

I was sitting in my seat already and I saw Luke walk in with Michael. Oh crap. They were talking and laughing, so they didn't seem to notice me.

Luke saw me as he got further into the classroom and sat in the desk across the aisle from mine. Trina was next to me, on my right, as usual. Luke leaned his arm on his desk and gave me a closed mouth, dimpled smile and thumbs up. What the hell? I politely, but nervously smiled back. He leaned forward and looked over at the front of me so he could fully see my shirt, and then he said, "I like your shirt."

It was a Nirvana shirt. "Thanks." I smiled bigger and then looked forward to temporarily ignore him and pay attention to class. I got bored fast, so I pulled out my phone and started listening to music. I was getting lost in Green Day ballads, when I felt a light tap on my left shoulder that shocked me. It was Luke. Why does he go from not even looking at me, to now constantly bothering me? I honestly didn't mind though. I liked the attention from him.

"Hey whatcha listening to?" He whispered. I saw Michael looking at him, rolling his eyes. I showed Luke my phone screen so he could see himself.

"Aw I like that too. You have a great music taste!" Luke said.

"Aw thanks." I whispered back.

I got to lunch and sat down with my typical table: Nella, Trina, Lauren, Lynnie, Kennedy, and Izzy. Towards the end of lunch, I saw Luke get up from his lunch table and start walking towards ours. Oh no I did not want to try to have another awkward conversation at school. I was not socially prepared today, especially since I just started talking to Luke and I was trying to figure out my feelings towards him.

I finally texted Liana yesterday. Our conversation went pretty well, but I still felt nervous and awkward. I figured out she had a pretty good music taste and liked anime. I don't watch much anime, but that's still cool. I also smiled at and talked to her in class today, but she seemed kind of annoyed. I was scared of getting to know her, partly because of that. I just wanted to be around her, but I was so worried I was being super annoying. I thought she's cute and wanted to become closer, but what if I actually start liking her? I hadn't been with a girl like that in about a year, and I had a terrible experience last time. I wasn't sure I wanted that again. I would be okay though. I'll just not open up too much to Liana, and we'll just become good friends. That shouldn't be so hard. Yet I couldn't help trying to talk to her even more today.

I was sitting at lunch with Ashton, Calum, Bianca, and our other friend Theo now. Michael didn't have a lunch period or else he would've sat with us too. I was pretty much done eating, so I looked around to see if I could find Liana. Soon enough, I saw her and her friends sitting at a table across the cafeteria. Despite trying to keep my distance and not be overly zealous or annoying, I walked over. Ugh was this even a good idea? I'm probably just driving her away from me. But maybe that wasn't bad. Then it could all be over before I had time to get hurt. What was I even gonna talk about? Just say hi, how's lunch and walk away? It was too late to turn back now. I was already a foot away from her table and she noticed me. Shit, this was a bad idea wasn't it?

"Hi Liana." I started. I was standing right next to her, uncomfortably looking at her and the rest of the table as some of her friends looked at me surprised or confused.

"Hi." She said, looking happier and less annoyed than usual. Or maybe she was just acting.

"And hi to Liana's friends. Sorry I don't know most of you. I'm Luke, one of the students from Australia."

"We know." One girl with long, straight, light brown hair said bluntly. She was the one that usually sat next to Liana in Chem. I think her name was Katie or something. Another girl, Nella, I'm pretty sure, gave her a death glare when she said that.

Another one of Liana's friend with light blue eyes and dark hair loudly told me, "HI LUKE IM LAUREN LOUISE TOMLINSON!" Wow, she was definitely bold and outgoing.

My shock probably showed on my face. "Um nice to meet you Lauren." She gave me a huge, proud smile.

"My name's Nella." Nella said shyly.

"Hi I'm Izzy." A tiny, tan ginger said, smiling and waving. She was adorable.

"Kennedy." A brunette said, with a small smile and peace sign.

The one from my Chem class harshly said, "Hello, I'm Katrina."

"I'm Lynnie" said the last girl.

"So, what are you doing here?" Liana asked inquisitively and concerned. Ugh I probably was right. She doesn't want to talk to me. I didn't even know how to respond. Honestly, what was I doing there?

"Um. Nothing really." I laughed nervously. "I was just bored and finished my lunch so I thought I'd stop by and say hi."

Liana looked a little confused, or maybe even suspicious but she laughed. Nella, Izzy, Kennedy, and Lynnie were still slightly smiling at me, but Trina was still glaring at me judgingly, and Lauren was looking at me sternly like she didn't know what to think of me.

"Also, I heard you were good at science so I wanted to know if you wanted to meet me in the library later today and help me with our Chemistry homework." I said, while looking down a little and nervously scratching my ear.

"Um sure. Do you have a free period 7th period? I can go down there then." Liana agreed.

Wow. I was so relieved. I managed to ask her something and successfully plan something too, even though it was just a homework help session in the library.

"Okay, thanks. See you then."

"Yep." She said and smiled.
