luke's pov
I was trying to relax. I hadn't had any possible supernatural encounters since that night with the sulfuric smoke and the weight on my chest, but I was still slightly on edge. Although, there has been some slight light flickering in my bedroom that hasn't happened before. But that could just have a simple electric reason. So far, Liana and Michael have both noticed that I wasn't acting completely myself lately. That meant I had to amp up the pretending of being totally fine. I couldn't let either of them know what was really going on. Not that I even fully knew either yet.
I went into this week trying my hardest to act normal, but I had to remain a little distant from Liana. I hoped she wouldn't notice too much. I just didn't want her getting hurt.
liana's pov
It was a warm spring day and Luke and I were going to the park for a picnic date. I figured he was better and nothing bad was actually going on since he agreed to a date and he's been less jumpy and weird the past couple days. I was meeting him there, but I got there first.
The trees and grass were fresh and green. The air smelled faintly of roses, my favorite smell ever. I looked up and saw the sky was as blue as ever with thin white clouds swirling on the blue as if someone had painted them on. It was a beautiful day and I couldn't wait for Luke to arrive.
I waited a few minutes and he showed up with the picnic basket. I already had the blanket with me.
"Hi!" I said and ran up to him with my arms open.
"Hello Liana!" Luke said with a chuckle as he hugged me. The hug was very light and quick though. Usually he hugs tighter and rubs my back. Ugh whatever, I thought, and shrugged it off as me overthinking again.
We laid the blanket and basket down and sprawled out on it.
"So, what did Patty pack for us today?" I said, grinning.
"Hey! I packed this lunch myself. Patty just suggested some of the foods to pack."
I rolled my eyes and laughed. "Whatever you say, breadstick."
Luke stared at me with his gorgeous purple-tinted blue eyes and tried to hold in his laugh.
He pulled out Nutella sandwiches, iced tea, and crackers and hummus.
"Ooh you know what I like." I said with a smirk.
Luke seemed quieter than usual so I decided to start conversation.
"So, what have you been up to this weekend?" I asked.
"Not much. Just hanging out, relaxing."
"Nice. Have you been getting more sleep the past couple days?"
"Yeah. I'm good." He said, but his voice was unsteady.
We ate and talked for about another half hour and then decided to take a walk around the park for another half hour.
We were just standing under a tree hanging out and the moment seemed right so I started to lean in to kiss him. He closed the gap between us and kissed me, but he stopped it short as if he was regretting it. What the hell was going on? Was he planning on breaking up with me or something? I started to get really nervous but again, tried to just push my worrysome nagging in the back of my head aside.
"I have to get going soon, sorry." Luke said.
"Okay." I said, probably slightly sounding more like a question than a statement.
"I'll text you later though. I promise." He said with a smile and started to head back to the parking lot.
So today's date consisted of Luke cutting our hug, kiss, and date short. What was next?
