liana's pov

Yesterday, my friend Haley invited me to a last minute party because her parents and siblings were out of town. I don't know why any parents would leave their high schooler home alone for a weekend anymore. Doesn't everyone expect them to throw a big party at this point? It's 2016. Except my few closest friends and me. I think our parents know we're not socially active enough to have a lot of people over when we're home alone. Haley is a little more social and popular than us though. She probably invited half of the school. I figured I'd only stay for the food and probably not be there for long. I wasn't really looking forward to it, but Haley's my friend and I might have fun.

I kept bumping into people. The smell of sweat and booze was overwhelming. The music was blasting, and it was super dark. It was almost like being in Hollister where every element of the atmosphere is overwhelming all of your senses to the point where it's debilitating. I didn't notice who it was at first when a tall, sweaty body got shoved against me. I don't think anyone could see where they were going well, and to make it even worse, boys who were dancing and thrashing all around pushed one of their friends into me. Since he was drunk, it took him a while to catch himself so he kept stumbling backwards into me as I tried to shuffle out of his way. The tall figure was Luke Hemmings. He turned around and put his hand on my head, probably just to help his balance.

"Oh sorry small one. I didn't see you there. And obviously neither did my jack ass friend Ashton who," his voice raised in volume even more, "pushed me into you!" the boys erupted into laughter, still clumsily rocking back and forth. I was kind of upset he called me "small one". I suppose I was much shorter than him though. I must look like two feet tall from his height.

I finally found Haley, one of my only actual friends that was here. She was in her basement, with some people who were noticeably more sober than the teens upstairs. However, they weren't completely sober.

"Hey Liana! You made it!" Haley exclaimed.

"Yeah. Barely." I huffed. "I nearly got trampled by the Australians when I was coming in."

"Yeah, sorry. They're all pretty drunk already. You showed up late." Haley laughed.

I rolled my eyes. I didn't plan on getting drunk so I was probably going to leave soon anyway. It's not like anyone here would miss me. Haley's clearly got enough other friends to keep her entertained for the night. I didn't know what else to do at the moment so I just sat down on the couch and pulled out my phone. I was busy reading Twitter fights when I felt a weight push down on the cushion next to me. I decided to glance over to see who it was. It was Ashton and his girlfriend making out. She was all over him but he did not seem as interested. I know I shouldn't have been watching them kissing but it just was so weird and awkward it was one of those things that was hard to look away from. Her eyes were shut and she was on top of him, running her hands over his muscles. On the other hand, one moment Ashton would seem to be enjoying it and then he would grow stiff and his eyes would open slightly and his hands would leave her body to lay at his sides. He seemed almost, bored. It seemed like the moments where he was enjoying it was when the alcohol would kick back in and he'd be too drunk to care. I decided to ignore it since it was none of my business anyway. Shortly after Ashton and his girlfriend came Luke, Michael, and Calum. I almost could have thought that they were following me or something.

Michael and Luke looked at Ashton and his girlfriend, laughed, and sat down on the couch across from us. Calum scowled at them and said, "Ugh you two are gross. And also, maybe come up from air and pay attention to your surroundings. You're two inches away from rolling on top of that girl."

"Uh yeah. By the way, I'm Liana." It was no surprise he didn't know my name. It's not like the Australians and I have ever talked before tonight. The only reason I knew their names was from people talking about them, and watching them on YouTube.
