Chapter 23

Brandon's POV:

We arrive home and I tell moms that I want to go lay down, but they won't let me. Doctors orders.

"But mom I just want to lay in bed and watch some tv," I whine. Yes I whine its been a rough two days.

"No Brandon you are too likely to fall asleep. Go sit on the couch and watch tv," mom (Stef) says.

"Um.. I could make sure he doesn't fall asleep and then when I get tired come and get one of you," Callie suggests.

Mom thinks it over for a second and then agrees. Callie and I slowly make our way up the stairs and into my room. "Thanks," I say.

"No problem. I actually wanted to talk to you about something," she says.

"Shoot."

"Well, your mom said that bill called and he might have found someone to adopt me," she hesitates.

"Oh... Uh, that's good right?" I ask but even I can't hear the disappointment in my voice.

"I guess it's only a couple of blocks away too," she tells me.

"That's great! Now we don't have to hide our relationship," I say cheerfully.

"I didn't say I was gonna go Brandon," she says looking at the floor.

"Why not?" I ask really confused. She will only be a few blocks away, we can stop hiding our relationship, and she will finally get a permanent home.

"Jude can't come with."

"Oh... But he'll still be here right?" She nods. "Then what's the problem? You'll still get to see him all of the time," I reason with her.

"But- but I told him I wouldn't let them split us up again," she says. I lift her head up so she's looking at me. I see tears filling her eyes and I know she's trying her hardest not to let them fall.

"Ask him if it's okay. If he says no then you don't go. Plus it would take a while before they can adopt you so if you don't like it then you can come back," I try.

"Yeah you're right. I'm just scared that Jude will think I'm trying to leave him behind," she say as a tear escapes.

"He won't think that. I promise. Do you want me to go with you when you tell him?"

She nods. "I have to tell him tonight because Bill is coming in the morning." She take a deep breath and wipes her tears away. "I'll be right back," she says and then walks out of my room. I hope Jude says it's okay. I mean of course I'll miss her, but we won't have to hide our relationship anymore.

A minute later Callie's back with Jude. "I have to ask you something Jude," she tells him. He glances at me and then back to Callie. What was that about?

"About what?" He asks.

"Bill called Stef and Lena today. He said that someone wants to adopt me. Their house is only a couple of blocks from here, but... Um- you would have to stay here," she says.

"Wha- what?" He asks.

"I'm sorry baby. I wanted to ask you first, but if you don't want me to go I won't. Lena and Stef said I don't have to go if I don't want to,"

Jude looks a little confused for a moment. Then glances back at me again (what is with this kid?) and then to Callie. "I think you should go," he says.

"You- you do?" Callie asks surprised.

"Yeah. I mean I'll still get to see you everyday right? Will you still walk home with all of us? Maybe even eat dinner here once a week?" He asks.

"Of course, baby, whatever you want," Callie says excitedly. Then she pulls him into a giant hug. "Thank you Jude." He nods and smiles. Then he winks at me. Callie and him were still hugging so she didn't see, but the kid winked at me! That's why he's letting Callie go. He knows!
