Callie's POV:

"Callie. Callie, wake up." I hear as I'm being shaken. My eyes slightly open and I see the light coming through my window and Ty standing over me.

"What?" I ask, my voice hoarse from the disuse of it through the night.

"I have to tell mom and dad today at breakfast. Then I'm meeting up with Brandon to tell him. It's almost time for breakfast."

"Okay I'll be ready in a few." I tell him. He nods and walks back to his room. I get up and go into my closet. What to wear, what to wear?

I get to see Brandon today. Will it be awkward after yesterday? Or will it be just like normal? Should I wear something extra cute? Yes. So... What to wear? Out of the corner of my eye I see my favorite leather jacket. Perfect. I throw on a a pair of dark jeggings, a pair of black combat boots, a white tank top, and my fitted maroon leather jacket. I look in the floor length mirror on the back of the closet door. Outfit is good, now onto my hair and makeup.

I go into the bathroom and wash my face. Then I brush my teeth and look into the mirror. What should I do with my hair? I decide to run the straightener through it quickly and then start on my makeup. I put some black eyeliner on my waterline and then put a few coats of mascara on my lashes. With a swipe of lip gloss on my lips, I knock on Ty's door.

I sigh. "Ya ready?"

"As I'll ever be." With that we walk down to the kitchen, after I grab my purse from my bedroom.

"Morning," we say in unison as we walk into the kitchen and sit down.

"Good morning, kids!" Helen exclaims. "We are having Belgium waffles for breakfast." She puts a plate in front of me and then one in front of Ty. "Her are your strawberries in a compote, Callie, here are your blueberries, Ty, and you two are sharing the whipped cream."

"Thanks mom." We say in unison, again.

Ty takes a deep breath. "Mom, dad, I need to tell you guys something."

"What's wrong?" Helen asks.

"Well... I signed up to be in the... Marines." He says.

"Following in my footsteps I see. When do you leave for boot camp?" Richard says. It angers me that he is so okay with his son going off to fight in a war, where he may be killed. I mean, if I could, I would try to talk him out of it, but I can't.

"Um... Next week." Ty responds.

Helen just starts crying. She runs around the table to Ty and hugs him, crying into his gray t-shirt.

"Mom, I'll be home before you know it. I promise, I'll be just fine." He knew that he may not be able to keep that promise, but he said it anyway and I couldn't stop the stinging in my eye as tears threatened to spill over.

After Helen crying for a very long time, Ty's dad pulled her away from him and told us to leave and that he would handle his wife. Personally, I didn't want to leave her with him and by the look on his face neither did Ty, but we did because adding a fight between father and son would definitely not help the situation.

"Should we go over to Brandon's?" Ty asks.

"Sure. I'll text him that we are on our way... You know he's not going to want you to go right?"

"Yes. I don't want him to go either, but you don't always get what you want." He put his hands on my shoulders and looks me dead in the eyes. "We will be fine and we will come back, both of us." I know that he can't make that promise but it helps a little bit.

We decide to meet Brandon at the same coffee shop that we went to yesterday.

"Hey bebe," I say when I see Brandon sitting at a table. He smiles and stands up. He wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me into him, crashing our lips together.

"Ew! You guys know that there are other people here too, right? No brother wants to see his best friend and his sister making out and I'm pretty sure no one else in here wants to watch you guys either," I says. I pull away from Brandon and laugh at Ty's comment and disgusted face.

"Sorry bro, but I'm going to kiss my girlfriend when I see her."

"Whatever. Can we just sit and get some coffee please?" We ordered our drinks and then started talking. Brandon asks Ty, "so what did you want to talk about?"

"Well, I already told Callie last night when she got home and my parents this morning, I have decided that I'm going to go into the Marines. All of the men in my family have went into the military and I think now it's my turn," he explained. Brandon gasps.

"You can't."

"Why not?" Ty counters.

"Because that's what I'm doing and I already signed up."

"So did I."

"But someone needs to stay with Callie," Brandon says.

"Wait a second," I pipe in, "is that what both of you were worried about the other for? Because you're worried that no one will be here to protect me? Guys I was on my own and protecting Jude longer than I've known you two. I can take care of myself."

They were both quiet for a moment and then Brandon broke the silence. "We know you ca take care of yourself, bebe, but we don't want you to have to. You have a brother that can protect you and a boyfriend. We don't want you to have to go back to having to be the tough Callie that you were when you came to my house for the first time."

"I won't be alone this time. I have three moms now, a sister, and two brothers not including Ty. I'm covered. I don't need you guys worrying about me. I'm supposed to be worrying about your safety not the other way around. I'm not the ones going into a war zone." I explain. "Now. Have you told moms yet Brandon?"

He looks down at his hands on the table. "Yes."

"How did the react?" I prod.

"I told the whole family at once. It didn't go so well."

"Well what happened?"

"Moms freaked. They yelled and cried and it was just really bad. Jesus tried not to cry and Mariana started balling. Then Jude, well Jude hugged me and cried and refused to let go. It was terrible. They took it almost worse than you did, but unlike you, I wasn't able to cheer them up at all and I was horrified by what I had done to our family."

"My poor baby," I say.

"Thanks."

"I love you Brandon, but I was talking about Jude." His cheeks turned bright red.

"Oh." I can't help myself when I start laughing. "How did your parents react Ty."

Ty shrugs and acts like he doesn't care, but I know it really hurts him when he says, "Mom cried, dad didn't really care."
