Chapter 42
"Vanessa."
Vannie came back to her senses when somebody called her name. She was just there, standing alone outside Kate's house—shocked—and confused. Aminado siyang gabing-gabi na pero dahil sa huling mga katagang sinabi ni Samuel sa kanya, she doesn't know what to react. She was afraid.
Napansin naman niya ang nakaparadang puting SUV sa harapan niya, it was a Toyota Fortuner. The car's window suddenly opened and she then saw Max Peter Magallanes who obviously drove the SUV.
"Ride." He said. Hindi naman alam ni Vanessa kung anong sasabihin niya rito. Everything wasn't sinking in into her.
"Bilis, sakay na." It was obvious Max was getting pissed off. Napilitan namang sumakay si Vannie sa kotse nito—riding shotgun with him. She doesn't know what is happening.
Kaagad naman itong nagmaneho. Everything became silent. She doesn't really know what to say. Parang naestatwa siya dahil sa mga sinabi ni Samuel Ignacio sa kanya—what if he won't accept her apology anymore?
"Nag-away ba kayo?" Max asked her while he was focusing himself on the road.
"H-Ha?"
"Fuck, Vanessa," Hindi niya alam kung bakit bad mood ito. Usually kapag nakakasama niya ito sa cafeteria, it was her and Max that would get that along so good—they would usually tease Jared out—hanggang sa mapikon ito. But the real deal was, why was he here fetching me up?
"Goddamn it, ginising pa 'ko ni Samuel sa dis-oras ng gabi para sunduin ka tapos hindi mo ako sasagutin ng maayos?" Max was really getting irritated. Pinasundo siya ni Samuel?
Medyo natakot naman si Vanessa sa boses nito. Max' voice was intimidating. "He's.." She gulped. Hindi niya talaga alam kung anong mararamdaman niya dahil sa nangyari. Gusto niyang maiyak at mainis sa sarili niya. "He's mad at me." She closed her eyes. Samuel is mad at her.
Narinig naman niya ang pagbuntong-hininga nito, "Probably he's just pissed off. He won't get mad at you. He's too devoted and loyal to you, Vanessa. He even sacrificed a lot of things, just for you—even the fraternity. Even though before, you really wanted the AGP to be dissolved, he was never mad at you." Max replied to her—directly to the point.
Gusto namang maiyak ni Vanessa dahil sa sinabi nito. Max Peter was right. Samuel has done a lot of things to her—he saves her a lot, he was there whenever she needed a shoulder to cry on. Kahit ilang beses na niya itong tinataboy, kahit ilang beses na niyang hindi ito napasalamatan—he was never mad at her. He still takes care of her. Even when she and Adrian had split, he was there.
Ginawa nito ang lahat para sa kanya pero lagi na lang niya itong nasasaktan.
"Naguguluhan ako sa nararamdaman ko, Max. Hindi ko alam kung bakit.." Naiiyak na sabi niya rito. Gulong-gulo na talaga siya.
