Molly's POV
"Wait, so you didn't get the job?" My friend, Talia Miller, asked me. I sighed and put down the book I was reading. "No."
"B-But why not?" she asked, her blue eyes wide with disbelief. I adjusted my glasses and put down the book. Mainly because I knew what I would say next would just trigger the never ending and latest obsession for the Streaks. "Because Anna gave it to one of the Streaks," I said. Anna was in charge of the school's newspaper, and she did a good job. This year would be her last though because she was a senior.
"What? The STREAKS? Which one? Why'd they want the job? Why would Anna give it to them? What were they like? Tell me EVERYTHING!" Talia demanded.
Talia's long, platinum blond hair -which was in twin pigtails- was in her bowl of pudding, and I couldn't help but laugh at the sight. I still didn't know why the Cafeteria served us that stuff, only Talia liked it. "Molly answer!" she said again.
"Well, I remember rushing in and asking Anna about the job, but then she said she gave it to the black girl with the pink highlights, who was there of course," I said. Talia nodded, "Zoey Cass- the sweet, bubbly one." I added another comment, " And her friend, with the rainbow streaks, was beside her."
With that, Talia's eyes were the size of golf balls, "You mean THE STREAK, Emera Pisces, was within ten feet of you?!" She asked. I nodded, "More like 5."
"What were they like?" Talia asked. I shrugged, "I wasn't talking to them. But Zoey seemed a bit guilty and like she wanted to give me the job, which was nice. And Emera . . ." I trailed off. "What? WHAT?" Talia pestered. "There's . . . just something off about her.Like a chill down my spine. Like she isn't one of us . . ." I said.
"Of course, she isn't one of us! She's a Streak!" Talia protested. I shook my head, "No, it was much more than that. Like she had an aura that could draw you closer to her like you wanted to find out all her secrets. You know that feeling I always get when someone's hiding something? Increase that by 10. She seemed so mysterious, so knowing so . . . I don't know how to describe it. She walked and talked like she was powerful, like with one gesture she could astonish the wisest of men," I said.
"Lucky, I wish I could have been near her," Talia said, scooping up a spoonful of pudding. "Like I said, something was off about her," I insisted.
"Maybe it's because she's so graceful and pretty. I mean the moment she walked into the cafeteria for the first time everyone was in awe," she suggested. I shrugged. Maybe. I couldn't deny she was drop dead gorgeous, but all of the Streaks were. They all seemed to have something about them I couldn't quite put my finger on. But Emera seemed to be the most unique of the bunch. She seemed captivating, enchanting, everything all rolled up into one.
"Speaking of the Streaks, which of the boys do you think is cutest?" Talia giggled. There was a smudge of chocolate pudding on her cheek. "Mine is Tyler Stoss. He's cute with the pink!" she said.
"Jason Kimber." Is the word I breathed out. Jason Kimber, the living embodiment of perfection. Jason Kimber, the only guy who can make my heart beat like a drum by simply awarding me his presence. I've read all the symptoms of love in my novels, and it was undeniable. I was crushing on Jason Kimber.
Talia frowned, "I heard he was dating Emera."
I slammed my book down on the table, "Not everything about the Streaks is true Talia! Some say they are aliens, other say they are witches and wizards, some say they are experiments from a lab!" I said.
Talia flinched, and turned back to her pudding. "Damn, Molly. I thought you were mainly in love with your books. But Jason's the first one to make you hurt them." With that, I looked and saw I slammed my Harry Potter book into my PB&J. "My baby!" I said. I picked up my book and caressed the fine edges. "I'm so sorry, Mommy loves you . . ." I cooed. Talia put on a weird face, "You're so obsessed with your novels."
"You're so obsessed with the Streaks," I said.
"Speaking of which, they should be getting here soon!" She fangirled. Even though it was the weekend, and we had a free day, the Streaks always got food from the cafeteria. But they never ate from it.
Talia whipped out her phone and took pictures as they arrived right on time. "Where do you think they eat?" she asked me. "Ask the people who wrote that article about them, they probably stalk them," I said. Maybe that's why they wanted to get into the newspaper stuff. To stop the people writing the articles.
Emera was leading all of them, walking alongside Jason. He gestured for her to wait a moment before walking over in my direction. Wait, MY DIRECTION? "Hey, Molly Stone right?" he asked me. He brushed his rainbow bangs out of his face before they fell over his forehead again. His rainbow eyes pierced mine as he gave me a friendly smile. "You're at the top of our math class, right? At least, second to Carlyn? I'd ask her to help, but she's kind of busy. But, would you help tutor me?" he asked me. My heart stopped, and everything was silent around me. But that might've just been me. Talia nudged me and I came to my senses and stopped gawking at his features.
"Y-y-yes of course!" I stuttered. Carlyn beat me very quickly at being top at the school, but before I was one of the smartest kids in school. Even for a freshman. I still held a little grudge against Carlyn for beating me, though. "Sweet, I'll visit your dorm later tonight, okay? I seriously need help," He said. He left, and my breathing was sounding more like deep heaving sounds.
"OMG Molly! I can't believe it!" Talia fangirled with me. Maybe I had a shot with Jason! It would be like those classic love stories of Popular loves the Nerd.

Emera's POV
I looked over at the girl once Jason headed back towards us. I didn't like her very much, she was the Molly who was going to be in the newspaper. She was fangirling with her friend. "Stone girl huh? So, how come you didn't just ask Carlyn?" I asked him. "Carlyn's busy tutoring the others, and the girl seems smart. Plus, we have to befriend a few other classmates if we want to not be suspicious," Jason said. Damn, he had a point. "Plus, she reminds me of how you used to be," he said.
I raised an eyebrow at him. "I love you even more now, you know," he said.
I smiled, "You better, or else I'll cheese grate your balls." He laughed.
I pulled his waist and hugged his side so we could walk like that. I put his arm around my shoulders as he squeezed it. We walked off with our food and I looked back to see Molly Stone looking lovesick over Jason and glaring at me.
But I knew how to mark my territory.
