A young woman, maybe around fifteen or sixteen years, stood before a gravestone in the middle of the woods somewhere. A solitary tear fell down her cheek and she hurriedly wiped it away. As she did so her hair shifted to reveal pointed feline ears. And a closer glanced showed lines running across her cheeks as if whiskers or patterns of some sort. A soft sigh escaped her mouth as she tried to hold any other wayward tears at bay.
"Don't worry mother." The girl spoke in a husker voice weary from crying. "I'll become stronger so that I can avenge. I'll go to the school you always told me about. The one that your friend runs." A snapping twig in the woods behind her caused her to spin around. "Who's there?!"
"Come quietly girl and we won't hurt you to much." A wolf faunus stepped out from behind a tree, a jagged sword sat on his shoulder. And a mask with claw marks painted on it covered most of his face. Further sounds revealed that he wasn't alone as several more faunus. All wearing the same mask.
"Why won't you people leave me alone?!" The girl screamed, her teeth sharpening suddenly to a point. Her whole body shook in anger and her vision began to darken as she felt the shift coming.
"Our leader wants to speak to you." The wolf man spoke calmly, which for some reason made her even more angry. "I won't be taking no for an answer."
Slowly she slipped her hands into her weapons that sat in sheaths clipped to the back of her hips. Her plan was to take out as many of them as she could before the shift happened and she lost where she was. A voice rang out to her right causing her to stiffen. She noticed her enemies also stiffened, it wasn't more of their's.
"I am sorry to inturrupt but I over heard the woman say she did not want to go with you." Glancing over she saw a boy about her age wearing a large bulky cloak walking towards her. "If you try to force her I am afraid I will have to stop you."
"When did she say she didn't want to go with us?" Wolf man grinned as he signaled his men. "I never heard her say that." Soon the boy was surrounded and he had to stop walking or run into his advisaries. "What's in the bag?" Wolf man asked pointing at the large bulk on his back just beneath his cloak.
"It is not a bag but a shield." The boy pulled his cloak back to reveal a massive shield on his back. The thing looked to be at least a foot thick and was round with black holes around its thick edge. Its full radius was nearly as tall as him. It's top coming just above his head and the bottom just below his knees. "My bag is underneath it." He pointed to a small pack sitting just under the shield, practically being dragged. "I wanted to pack light."
"Well boy." Wolf man moved to stand between the boy and her. "I suggest you run along before something bad happens to you."
"I am very sorry for the inconvenience but I can not do that." The boy shook his head. "It would be dishonorable to leave this young maiden here for you to do with as you please."
"Wha-?! I never-!" Wolf man sputtered in response. "Forget it! Get him!" He ordered his men.
It seemed like that was exactly what the boy had been waiting for. With a smooth motion he threw off his cloak sending it at the underling in front of him. A flash of light and an explosion went off as something flew from a hole on the boys shield slamming into the underling to his right. As whatever it was ricocheted off the grunt the boy reached out to catch it. Faster than she had seen anyone move he spun around to face the underling behind him and two explosions went off. One from the same hole on the Shield earlier, which was now facing the underling that was on his left, and the second from whatever he had caught throwing the underling now in front of him onto his back. Catching the second projectile from his shield he spun around again to face the underling that was finally managing to pull his cloak off.
"I suggest you and your men leave for now." The boy was holding two pistols, one in each hand, and had one aimed at the underling's face while the other was pointed at wolf man. "It is simple frost rounds but I can switch to something more lethal if necessary."
"Tch" Wolf man grunted in frustration as he realized the boy was more skilled than he had first realized. "We'll back off this time." He signaled his underlings. "The leader of the White Fang will get what he wants eventually." With that said he quickly left as well.
"Are you ok?" The boy asked Tigris as he slid the guns back into the whole on the shield they had come out of. Tigris smiled slightly as she tried to decided what to say.
"I'm fine. Thank you very much Mr. Hunter." She answered after thinking for a bit. This might work out to her advantage. If she could travel with someone strong she wouldn't have to chance going into the shift. "Might I ask which direction your headed? If we could travel together as long as possible I would really appreciate it." She gave him her most disarming smile. If he asked too many questions she might have to fight.
"Was that the response you decided on before or after considering attacking me with your hidden weapons?" The boy spoke calmly. She gripped her weapon tighter in anticipation. "Also I am not a hunter. Not yet anyways." He began walking again, glancing at her as he walked past. "I am on my way to Beacon Academy to train and obtain the title of hunter. My name is David of Baract. What is yours?"
She was shocked. Not only did he notice her weapons and her intent but he also felt that she wasn't a threat. And on top of that he was going to the same school as her!
"Your name?" He asked again. "If we are traveling together it would be best to know each other's names."
"Ah sorry." She quickly recovered and moved to walked beside him. "My name is Tigris."
"Just Tigris?" His eyebrow rose in curiosity.
She flinched at the thought of how he might react if he knew her last name. Before she could think of something to say he spoke releasing her from answering.
"I guess it really is not my business what your last name is." He gave her a gentle smile. "I myself don't have a last name technically so don't feel obligated to give one."
He didn't have a last name? But didn't he say he was David Baract? This boy was very strange. But just in the few minutes walking with him she felt something she hadn't since her mother had been alive. Safe.
