"Are you sure you're up for it?" Mark asked me.
"Yeah, I want to get on with my life. To get things back to normal. School will take my mind off things." I assured him.
"Well OK then."
It was Monday morning. I had arrived on Saturday night meaning I had only been here one full day. Today I was going to my new school. Fingers crossed that everything goes well.
"You ready Jess?" Ed asked me walking to the door.
"Yeah lets go." I told him and we both walked out of the home together.
"So you excited?" Ed wondered.
"More frightened than excited." I worried.
"Don't be. You've got me. I'll look after you." He shot me a wink.
"Thanks Ed. Again with the winking?" I give a light chuckle.
"Yep." He grinned.
We came across hundreds of bright red leaves scattered along the pavement. Each step Ed and I took together made a loud 'Crunch!' beneath us. An autumn leaf came floating down and planted itself on top of my head without me knowing.
Ed looked at me.
"What?"
"You have a leaf in your hair. Wait, I will get it." He carefully picked around in my hair and gently removed it. "There, now you look perfect."
That remark made me blush. He thought I looked perfect?
"I like your necklace Jess." Ed complimented.
"Thanks, my... mum left it to me. Its a locket, look." I opened it up to reveal a small picture of my mum and I. I put up all my defences up so I wouldn't cry at the sight of the picture.
"You both look so happy." Ed gazed at the picture with longing in his eyes.
"Yeah we were..." I trailed off at the memory.
We were half way to school by now when Ed noticed something popping out of my rucksack.
"What's that?" Ed asked intrigued. and took it out of my rucksack.
My eyes lit up as I snatched it out of his hands.
"Nothing." It was my paper notepad were I wrote my song lyrics in.
"No its not nothing. Please let me see." He threw me a gorgeous smile and adorable, bright, glistening puppy eyes. How could I say no?
"Fine you can see it, but DON'T laugh!" I reluctantly handed him the notepad.
He did a quick read through the songs and when he was done he just stared at me.
"What? They weren't that bad were they?" I asked.
"Wow." Was all he could manage to say. He was speechless.
"Wow?"
"They were fricking awesome! You are such a talented song writer." Ed complimented.
"Thanks but I'm not."
"You shouldn't be ashamed of writing song. I write songs too and I play the guitar." He informed me.
"Really?" My eyes lit up. "That's so cool."
"Yeah I know." He smiled modestly. "We should jam some time."
"Jam?" I laughed a little. "Sounds epic."
"Now this is the start of something beautiful." Ed lightly sang.
"Definately." I agreed.
"Looks like we're here. We have 2 minutes left until lessons start. Let me see your timetable."
"Timetable? I don't think I have one... Oh wait." I fumbled around in my bag and got out my planner that Mark had given me. I opened it up and there it was. I handed it to Ed.
"Awesome, you are in my form." He smiled to himself happily.
"At least I won't be a complete loner." I commented.
Ed began to read out my lessons for today and checked if he was in any of them.
"English, yes, History, no, Science, yes, Geography, no, Maths, yes and Music yes." Ed read aloud.
"Not too bad then." I told him.
"Yeah I guess so."
"Riiiiinnnnnnnggggg!!!!!!" The school bell screeched from above us.
"Form time." Ed winked.
"Oh gosh."
We entered the school building and climbed our way up 2 flights of stairs to get to our form room.
The school wad huge. It had 4 floors for different subjects and my form room was on the music corridor meaning my form tutor was a music teacher. That was kind of awesome.
We walked into the room to be greeted by a sea of pupils all dressed in black for the school uniform which I was also forced to wear.
It was a black blazer, white shirt, black trousers, black shoes, black socks, and a black and golden striped tie. Very dull in my opinion, apart from the gold on the tie.
"Sup Ed, who's this then?" A random boy asked.
"This is Jessica. She's new today." Ed told the boy.
"Any friend of Ed's is a friend of mine. My name is Jake." He held his hand out for me to shake and I shook it.
"Nice to meet you Jake." I politely smiled. He seemed nice. Me and Ed took the two seats next to him.
The chairs were set out in a semi circle around the light blue painted classroom. The desks were behind the chairs, also in a semi circle, which rested against the walls. The chairs were turned around so they werent facing the desks but they were facing the front of the classroom where the teacher sat.
"Right Year 11, register time." The young woman who I believe was called Mrs Malloy.
"Jake Allard, Susan Carey..." She yelled out for the class to hear. This way I got to know everyone's full name.
"Edward Christopher Sheeran." She said.
"Mrs! Its Ed, how many times?" Ed told her.
"Gosh, Ed Sheeran." She yelled out again.
"Yes Mrs." Ed grinned at her.
I was guessing they had a good teacher pupil relationship.
"And finally Jessica Thompson. Oh we have a new pupil." Mrs Malloy looked suprized like she hadn't noticed me sitting in her form all this time.
"Hi." I waved awkwardly as everyone stared at me like I was some sort of alien.
Soon everyone stopped staring and me and Ed got talking.
"So what exactly do you do in form?" I ask him.
"Piss about really. Well thats what everyone else does. Mrs Malloy isn't too bothered. I just work on my music considering I'm lucky enough to have a music room as my form."
"Oh cool. Can I help you?" I willingly ask excited.
"Yeah, of course."
Me and Ed spent the remainder of form trying random things on the keyboards. We didn't really make a song or anything like that.
"Rrrrrriiiiinnnnngggggg!!!!" The school bell screams indicating form was over.
"Its gonna take a while to get used to that bell. Its so loud." I told Ed.
"Yeah, it is quite annoying."
We made our way to our first lesson.
Let the learning begin!
