Finally

"Buzz buzz buzz!" My phone vibrated in my pocket. Luckily Mrs Jessop, my geography teacher, didn't hear.

I plunged my hand into my pocket and fumbled around in search of my phone. Catiously, I pulled it out making sure no one in the class could see me.

The text was from Ed. It read:

Meet me @ the roof garden in 5 mins, Ed x

I wondered why he wanted to meet so suddenly. My hand shot up indicating I wanted Mrs Jessop's attention.

"Yes Jessica?" She asked.

"Can I go to the toilet?" I politely replied.

"Yes but be quick." Mrs Jessop said.

I grabbed the toilet pass from her desk and wondered out of the classroom.

I made my way up the corridor trying to remember the way to the gorgeous garden Ed had shown me.

I climbed the flight of stairs up to the roof and opened the door.

As winter was approaching it was fairly dark but lit up by twinkling fairly lights. Delicate rose petals lead the way to the bench which seemed to have a note on it.

The garden was already beautiful but now it looked even better. Had Ed done this?

I approached the bench and picked up the note that lay there.

It read:

Look behind you...

Slowly, I turned around and there he was. Although he was in his school uniform, his hair wasn't too messy and he looked quite smart. In his hands he held a bunch of pretty flowers. He looked worried but hid it with a smile. I then noticed I had a huge grin plastered on my face.

"Ed? What's going on?" I asked.

"Sit down and all will be revealed." Ed grinned. I was beginning to get excited.

"You are so random you know? What's with the lights and petals and stuff?" I asked him.

"Its supposed to be romantic." He shyly admitted.

"Romantic?" I tried to control my smile that wanted to escape. "Why?"

"Because I like you, Jess. I thought that was obvious." He revealed.

"Shit! You aren't joking about all of this?"

"I wouldn't joke about something like this. Why does everyone think that?" He was being serious.

"You really like me? Oh my gosh!" I was so happy.

"You know how I always wink at you, compliment you, sing to you, hang around with you?"

"Yeah... ohhh is this your little plan then?" I realise.

"Yeah I guess so. Anyway what I'm trying to say is..." He trailed off.

"Is...?" I tried to help him.

"Jess, I really really like you. You're pretty, funny, clever, you can sing, you can write and you're so cool." Ed lets out a huge breath like he was dying to say that for ages.

I stare at him dumbfounded.

"Jess, will you go to the dance with me?" He nervously asked.

"Finally! Of course I will go to the dance with you!" I grinned at him.

"Really?" He seemed surprised.

"Really. I like you too."

He drew me into a hug catching me by surprise. Well it took him a while to ask but finally we are together.

"So the winking and all that?" I began.

"Yeah... I wanted to see how you'd react. To know if you definately liked me." Ed admitted.

It was a stupid plan but I felt flattered.

"This place looks amazing you know." I complimeted on his work.

"Thanks. Well it wasn't all me. Georgia and Jake helped me set everything up. It was their idea really." Ed admitted.

"What do you mean?" I was confused.

"You told Georgia you liked me. I told Jake I liked you. They told each other this, then told me. Then they told me what I had to do and helped me." Ed informed me.

"Wow. That was cool of them."

"Well you helped them. So they helped you." Ed smiled.

It felt more believable knowing Ed didn't organise this. It was too cool to be down to one person.

"We've got some good friends, don't we?" I smiled.

"Yeah, the best." Ed agreed.

We sat on the bench staring out into the clear sky. It was like a scene from a movie. It was utterly perfect.

"I don't want to ruin the mood or anything but I told Mrs Jessop I would be quick going to the toilet."

"The toilet?" Ed was confused.

"My excuse. You know teachers don't let you just leave class to wonder around school aimlessly." I explained to Ed.

"Oh yeah! I sort of skipped class altogether, pretending I was ill." Ed cheekily smiled rebelliously.

"You really should stop dodging classes." I told him.

"Yeah I should. But I'm not gonna." Ed grinned. "I'm a rebel!"

That made me giggle. Ed was the sweetest guy I knew. I never would have thought him to be the rebellious type.

"Thanks Ed. You know for the whole garden, flowers, fairy lights ect. It was really sweet of you."

I raised my head up and planted a kiss on Ed's cheek leaving him smiling like an idiot on the roof.

I leave the garden feeling like the happiest person alive.

My life was finally getting good again. Nothing could bring me down, right?
