"Where are we going?" Lauren takes me by the hand and we rush out the door.
"Just doing typical Friday night things." she starts to drive.
I sit in silence as I keep thinking about Robbie. I keep saying I need to get over him but never do. I could set a limit. Don't think about him until this Friday night is over. Until it's 12 am you can't be all sad and heartbroken. Not a minute before. Do not break.
We pull into the school parking lot. As I step out of the car screams come from the stands. Bright lights that you could see miles away.
"Football? Really? I have no idea how any of this works." I groan.
"It's not about the football. It's about catching up with friends. I bet half of these people don't know how football works." Lauren tells me.
We walk to the field and see people with signs and lights, chanting and rooting for their team. Lauren directs me to the top of the bleachers while I try to not get in everyones way of the game.
"I'm so glad you could make it!" Lexi excitedly says hugging me.
"Yeah me too." I put on the brightest smile ever trying to cover up all the heartbreak.
"You didn't miss much. We haven't scored yet which isn't new." she fills me in.
"Obviously. We haven't won a season since 2008." I chime in.
"Well maybe with the new quarterback this year we will." Lauren says.
"I'd like to see him try." I smirk," we're against Ridge Town Robins one of the best high school football teams. We're so gonna lose."
"I'm with Megan on this one. The robins are amazing. Plus the scoreboard is 12-6. It's almost the end of the 3rd quarter. We're so not gonna win this season again. "
"You people are so negative." Lauren smiles.
"Hey you guys are free next Friday right?" Lexi looks at us.
"Yeah." Lauren and I say in unison.
"Well remember that triple date thing we talked about? Well it can happen on Friday the 15th!" she claps.
Lauren gives me a look and Lexi looks at me," is something wrong?"
"No! We'll be there! I just don't know if Robbie is free. I'll tell you once I know." I quickly say," um I'm hungry I think I'm gonna get some fries."
I walk off the bleachers and go towards the snack stand. I stand in the cold in line waiting for everyone to get their food and leave. I order my fries and decide to not rejoin my friends for a while. I head to the parking lot where I can try to regroup myself.
"Hey need some company?" A voice asks.
I look behind and see Dylan. A somewhat popular guy. Most people know who he is and is always surrounded by his best friends Kyle and Max and his girlfriend Katherine.
"No I'm good. Thanks for asking."
"Why aren't you at the game with you friends?"
"I could ask you the same thing." I give a tiny smile.
"Well I'm here because I'm waiting for Max to show up." he answers, "your turn."
"I need time to be alone from the craziness. Sometimes the screaming is over the top."
He laughs and runs his hands through his light brown hair," I get what you're talking about. Sometimes people can get a bit too wild."
Music blasts getting louder as it pulls into the parking lot. The lights shine on the pavement and turn off. The music stops and Max hops out of the car.
"Hey Dylan!" he says.
"Sup man." he smiles making his crystal blue eyes shine he looks at me," well I have to go it was nice talking to you..."
"Megan." I finish.
"Megan! It was nice talking to you Megan." he smiles.
"It was nice talking to you too." I reply.
"Bye Megan." Dylan says. I watch them turn around and walk in to the stadium.
It was getting late and Lexi and Lauren were probably wondering where I am. I go to the bleachers and see a smile appear on their faces when the see me.
"Hey that was really long." Lauren said.
"Yeah I know the line was incredibly long." I told her.
"Omg we're close to winning!!" Lexi squeals.
The scoreboard read 18-13. We just need one more touchdown to win the game.
"I told you that he new quarterback would be good." Lauren says in a sing song voice.
"There is no way he got two touchdowns in less than 10 minutes." I say shocked.
"Well if you didn't miss the game you would've seen how incredible he is. Plus we got another point for some reason." Lauren tells me.
"Well maybe 2015 might be our year." Lexi smiles," we could actually win the season."
It's the last five minutes of the game. Everyone's attacking each other for the ball. People scream when one of our players runs down the field. We hit the last touch down and we win. The crowd goes wild and the marching band plays.
"I told you guys we'd win!" Lauren happily dances.
"I have to say that was a pretty impressive game." Lexi says.
"I honestly didn't think we we're gonna make it." I laugh.
We leave the stands and head home and Lauren turns the radio on to fill the silence. We pull into our driveway and I head upstairs to my room.
"Aren't you glad I pulled you out of your room to go to that game?" Lauren asks.
"Yeah a bit. It took my mind away from him for a while. It was a nice distraction. Thanks for looking out for me."
"Thats what big sisters do." she winks, "here." she tosses me my phone.
I roll my eyes and she heads to her room. I change into pjs and finally relax in my bed. I turn my phone on to check the time and it's 12:01 am. I can be sad and heartbroken for as much as I want. The funny thing is I'm not.
