The sun shines bright as it seeps through my window. I squint my eyes, shutting the blinds. My phone lights up and it's Dylan. I let my phone fade to black and ignore him. I've stayed away from Robbie since March. Dylan's been more secretive then ever. It's driving me crazy. What if he's cheating on me? I mean I can't blame him. I've been such a horrible girlfriend to him. The image of Robbie's face close to mine plays in my head. I told myself I would get over him. The thing is I never did. I've always had feelings for him. They were just buried deep down where no one but me could find them. Dylan texts me and tells me to go to the football field.

____________

I step out of the car and look around but I can't find Dylan. All I see is roses outside the football gate and a card. I pick up the card and it reads:

Let's go on a scavenger hunt. This is the spot where we first met. Meet me at the place we had our first date.

I grab the roses and drive to the small outside venue where we saw the band play and had our first concert. When I get there I find more roses and another card telling me to go to the coffee shop.

On a small table outside there was more roses, a card, and some coffee. The card tells me to find him at my house.

I pull into my driveway and see rose petals leading up to my front door. He's holding a sign that says

You found me! Will you go to prom with me?

I feel myself beaming with happiness. I hug him and kiss him.

"What do you say will you go to prom with me?"

I shake my head yes unable to speak. Lauren comes out to take our picture. Lexi calls and talks about how she is so excited for us to go on a triple date. Probably more excited than I am.

_________
A few weeks go by and Lexi stops by to talk about prom details with me as exciting as that is.

"What color is your dress gonna be?" Lexi asks as she lies on my bed looking at prom dresses in magazines.

"I don't know. I'm thinking a plain color like champagne or something."

"But you'd look so pretty in red." she says.

"Yeah but I need to order my dress soon prom is in less than a week."

"But look how pretty this is!" she shows me.

I look closely at the blue mermaid dress she points at.

"It's pretty it's just not my style. You could wear that. Blue always looked pretty on you." I told her.

"I already have a pretty purple dress. Then Danny's getting my a white rose for a corsage." she beams.

"Ooh do you have a picture?" I ask more excited to see her dress then talk about mine.

She pulls out her phone and see a deep purple floor length dress with a bejeweled top. It's absolutely breathtaking.

"That's so pretty!"

"Isn't it? I'm in love with it. I would wear it everyday if I could." she sighs, "now what are you gonna do with your hair that night?"

"I don't really know. Probably curl it. Pin it in the back."

"Don't you want to get it professionally done?"

"Not really. Plus Lauren can help me if it really sucks." I laugh.

"You should! It's prom! When are you ever going to go to another prom in your life? I know everyone says this but it's senior prom. Don't you want the full experience?"

"Not really. I'm happy with what I'm doing. I mean I'm going aren't I? I think one prom is enough for a life time."

"Why aren't you excited? It's prom."

"I am excited. Just not showing it. I do want to go I just hate the whole fuss out of it. I love picking out dresses but I could live without the beauty treatment of the mani pedis and being in the salon for over two hours." I tell her.

"That's the beauty of prom. You can also skip a day of school." she says in a sing songy voice.

I giggle at the fact that I don't have to show up to school so I can get my hair done instead.

"I'll think about it." I smirk.

"Yay!" she wraps her arms around me.

"Wait look at this dress." I nudge her to look at a champagne floor length dress made of tulle. The top is covered in tiny sparkles with rhinestones making a belt sort of thing. With more sparkles after that.

"You have to get that!! You'd look so pretty!" she gasps, "Order it now!! How much is it!"

I laugh, "It's $350. It's not a bad price for such a beautiful dress. I'm ordering it. I will find other events to wear this to. I'm so in love with this dress. The color is perfect and I'm absolutely in love with it."

I order it in a heartbeat and feel myself smile.

"That's going to look gorgeous on you. Wow." she says, "Well I have to get going but it's been really fun! I'll see you tomorrow!"

"Bye Lexi!" I wave.

Maybe I'm not as excited for prom as I thought I'd be. Maybe Lexi is right. I'm not excited. I should be. I'm excited to get my dress and everything. I'm happy I get to go with Dylan. Then it hit me. I'm more excited to wear my dress then to go to prom with my boyfriend. Wow that's so messed up. I can't tell him I don't want to go with him. That would crush his heart. I just have to break up with him after prom. I know it's so wrong of me to drag it out. I just really hate hurting people and Dylan's been so wonderful to me. I know I have to do it though. I just don't see us working out.
