Life Minus A Child

Sophia had only been gone for two weeks, but it seemed like forever. Maybe that's just because she's my first. Maybe it's because I've never had one of my baby birds fly away for so long. Maybe it's just because I'm a mother. But I really missed her. I woke up in the morning to Selena and Rion asking and asking about Sophia. I went to bed hearing the same things, and it only made me miss her more.

"Mommy, when is Sophia gonna be home?"

"Mama, I miss Sophia."

"Mom, when's Soph gonna be home." 

Sometimes Taylor and Luke would say "Ia!" or "Phia!" as if it was there way of letting me know they missed her too.

Percy walked in the door that night later than usual. I got up and gave him a kiss on the lips.

"Hey Seaweed Brain," I murmured into his ear. 

"I missed you." He murmured back. I sat back down on the couch.

"I miss Sophia." I must've sounded like Selena when she threw those temper tantrums that only Percy could handle.

"Okay, Selena," Percy laughed. He planted a kiss on my forehead.

That night I went to sleep and had vivid dreams of Sophia. I saw her climbing the climbing wall, eating with her cabin, playing Capture The Flag, and... being claimed. I watched as a little trident flickered above her head. She screamed. Every gathered around her. Chiron trotted up and-

I woke up.

"Percy!" I tried to shake him awake. He groggily opened his eyes. 

"Wha- what's *yawns* wrong?"

"Sophia has been claimed!!!"

"So... is she my little girl, or yours?"

"What do you think?"

"Yours?"

"No, yours!"

"Seriously?!" Percy grinned at me, and every ounce of tiredness in his body drained away, leaving him elated. 

"i knew it!" He kissed me on the lips. I tried not to be offended. I was kind of hoping Sophia would be Athena, but whatevs. If Perce was happy, I was happy.

I went outside to check the mail, and sure enough a little blue envelope was in the mail. I opened it delicately, and read the words scribbled on the paper.

Dear Mommy, Daddy, Lena, Rion, Taylor, and Luke,

I  am at camp. I have a friend named Elissa, and she is really nice. Last night I got claimed by Poseidon and I have to move into Daddy's cabin. Is it okay if I sleep in your bunk bed, Dadddy? I can't wait for you to come and see me. I really miss you!

I smiled and laughed and cried at the same time. Percy rushed out to see what was wrong. I handed him the note and smiled and cried some more. Selena came over and hugged my leg, and soon the rest of the kids joined. I cried into Selena's jet black hair and Luke's bleach blonde hair. I couldn't wait to see Sophia either.

Hey guys! I wanted to start off by apologizing; sorry I haven't updated in a while- my family renuion was these past two weeks, so it's been hectic. But now i'm home, and I'll try to get some writing in before school starts.

Moving isn't easy, and i've learned that after doing it twice, but compared to what else is out there I feel blessed to be able to make this journey with my family, friends, and you all.

Sorry If this chapter's short; I wanted to get one out for you guys tonight. But it's kind of a big revelation; Sophia is a demigod daughter of Poseidon! Which leads me to the question of the chapter:

Who should the other kids be claimed by? (Athena or Poseidon?)
