Baby Underwood

 RING!!!! RING!!!! RING!!!

"Percy, can you please remember to turn off your phone? The whole neighborhood can hear you!" I pulled the pillow over my head as Percy answered. 

"Grover? Hey, man, what's-" Quickly I pulled myself up and leaned closer to hear the conversation. 

"Uh huh. Yeah. Oh, gods, man! S-sure, sure I understand. Uh huh. Yeah. Kay, see you!" I looked at Percy expectantly. 

"Juniper went into labor."

"Go, go, go." Percy whispered under his breath, the early morning traffic beginning to pile in. 

"Percy, it's okay. Grover called you at 6. It's 6:15. You have plenty of time."

"He really needs me right now, though. Gods, I remember when you went into labor, I was petrified-"

"You were?"

"Gods, Annabeth, what did they have you on? I was practically shaking!" I smiled at Percy, holding his hand.

"It's really sweet of you to do this for Grover. I'm sure he really appreciates it." 

We arrived at the hospital at 6:57. Percy sprinted up the stairs and dashed into the hallway, where Grover sat biting his lip.

"Hey, buddy," Percy hugged him and Grover began to rant. I heard Juniper's cries, and peeked in, a chill climbing up my spine. Blood was everywhere.

I shuddered, guiding myself away. 

"And the doctor said that she's way early and-" Grover was practically hyperventilating into Percy's ears.  A scream came from the hospital room. A nurse and two doctors rushed past us into the room. 

Inside, I could see Juniper's face was pale. Grover looked at the door to the room with a longing, yet hateful, gaze. 

"Grover, you'll be fine." I put my arm around his shoulders as he whimpered.

"Mr. Underwood?" A nurse came outside, holding a paper. 

"Yes?"

"You should come inside." Through the door I could hear something about the cord being around the baby's neck, and how it was very small- only three pounds. 

Percy came over and held my hand.

"Do you think the baby will be okay?" HIs eyes were so full of conern and worry for his best friend. I squeezed his hand, leaning into his chest. 

"I sure hope so."

3 hours later, Percy, Grover, Juniper, and I were all in the hospital room. The baby wasn't. 

Juniper was a blubbering, crying mess. Her makeup was smeared all over her face, and red marks had begun to appear from all her crying. Grover had tried to hold it together after seeing Juniper's state, but I could tell he was on the brink of falling. I just sat on the bed, hugging Juniper, in complete shock. Percy's eyes were glazed over. 

"The- the baby-- it might- it might die!" Juniper wailed, tears streaming down her face. 

"I saw it. It was blue! It was all my fault. I- I'm so sorry, honey--- I ruined your life, my life, and destroyed our baby's life." Juniper couldn't help herself. Grover just stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to do. 

"No, sweetie, you didn't. Shh, it's okay." A knock on the door made the whole room go silent. 

"Mr. Underwood?"

"Yes?" 

"Can you please step into the hall for a moment?" 

"S-sure, doctor." He kissed Juniper's forehead before leaving. We watched as Grover nodded slowly, and the doctor spoke quickly, and then- 

"The baby's alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Grover squealed, hugging the doctor, who looked at him with a look. 

"Thank you so much, sir, thank you so so so much!" Grover was so happy, and Juniper was crying again, but with joy this time.

"Okay, what names do you like, sweetie?" Grover asked, his hand at the whiteboard in the hospital room. It was March 4th, 3 days since the baby girl had been born. 

"My top three are Lilly, Chrysanthemum, and Iris." Grover wrote them down on the board, his handwriting barely readable.

"My favorites are Lilly, Daisy, and Rosie."

"Ooh, don't like Daisy."

"Why not?"

"Because it reminds me of the jerk of a girl in the Great Gatsby."

"C'mon, that's ridiculous,"

"No it is not, Mister." Grover listenened and took it off the list.

"You both liked Lilly. With two Ls, too. Interesting." I smiled at the baby girl in Juniper's arms.

"True. Annabeth, you're such a problem solver." Juniper smiled at the baby.

"She does look like a Lilly, honey. Look! Aw, she likes it!" Grover smiled, sitting next to his wife.

"Then that's what we'll name her."

Turned out the baby was named Lilly Iris Underwood. It also turned out that Juniper was pregnant yet again when we saw them next, which was in June. Lilly looked like a mini Juniper. She has tiny wisps of amber colored hair, and her eyes, which rarely opened, were an emerald green. You could even see a hint of green on her skin if you looked really carefully. 

Lilly was also as small as Juniper. Tiny hands, tiny feet, tiny face, tiny frame; no one would ever call her solid. She could sometimes look like a baby-grandma combo. You know, frail, but young. Percy made that one up. 

"Where's my baby? Where's my wittle baby?" Juniper hadn't had time to lose her baby bump, and she already had it back. I smiled. This was what we lived for.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Hey guys! It has been way to long, and I apologize. Sorry if this isn't the chapter you were hoping for, I just couldn't continue the vacation after such a long break. Anyway, my cousins were here and we went to Berklee College of Music for summer camp! It was really cool, and I learned a ton. I bet a bunch of you didn't know, but I am really into music! I actually had a single out... was it last year? I think so. :) 

How have your lives been? I'm so excited-- August 18th is just around the corner, and that's when Demigod Daughters in High School comes out! Also, I'm working on a co-writing piece with a fellow Wattpad member, and I will update HD soon- either today or tomorrow, that's a promise!

So I'm going to try to write a bunch these next two weeks so that I have things to publish for you guys while I'm with my whole family for two weeks. I'm going to bring my computer, so I'll just publish before I got to bed a few nights a week probably. Please give me some ideas so that I can write them now!! PLEASE! Anything you want! I know I ask this a lot, but I don't want to write something you don't want to read! That would be really stupid. 

I am actually still in my PJs right now, and i have somewhere to be in an hour, so I have to go shower and get dressed, but I'll try to write a bunch tonight, and this weekend! Talk to you guys later!
