It was around 1:30 AM on April 10th. I was sound asleep, and everything was quiet and gorgeous. Suddenly, felt something familiar and heard a loud pop. Percy sprang out bed (being the light sleeper that he is from being hero of the world) amd rushed to my side. The bed under me felt wet.
"Annabeth... your water broke!" My eyes opened so fast that it hurt. I jumped out of bed and got into the shower. Percy went into Sophia's room. She was now three, and she understood these things. I let the warm water flow on my body for a few minutes before changing into yoga pants and a long sleeve shirt. I slipped on flip flops and met Percy downstairs.
"it's okay, Soph. You'll stay with Grammy and Grandpa. Shh. Look, here's mommy!" Percy smiled and took my hand.
"Annabeth, we should probably get in the car." All of the sudden I was crying. I have no idea why, but I was. Percy took Sophia in his arms and carried her out to the car holding my hand.
"Shhh. It's okay," he lulled.
The car seemed to take hours, though it was only thirty minutes. I kept getting pangs of cramps. I would scrunch my face and hold my knees. The bumps on the road didn't make it any better. By the time we were in the city I thought that I was about to throw up.
Once we got to Sally's, we set Sophia in Sally's arms and gave Paul her stuff.
"She likes to go to bed around 7:30 PM. And she likes having chocolate chip pancakes!" I called to Sally, who heard me perfectly. As we drove away, I realized that it was the first time I'd be away from Sophia for a whole night.
"Do you think Sophie will be okay? What if-" I kept asking Percy.
"It's okay Annabeth. She's in great hands." Percy responded.
We pulled up to the hospital around 3:00 AM. The lady at the front desk, named Julia, told us to go to room 115 A. We stepped inside and Percy helped me get into the bed. I was in one of those uncomfortable hospital gown, and again I started crying. Percy was there to wipe away every tear.
Around 3:30, four people entered the room. Two were nurses named Audrey and Lauren. Then there was a man named Dr. Stringer and Dr. McCormick.
"Hi Annabeth, dear." Dr. McCormick said as she set up the divider so that I wouldn't be able to see my bottom half. I began going into labor five minutes later.
"Calm down, Mrs. Jackson." Lauren put wet, cool rags on my forehead and arms to keep me cool and relaxed. Dr. Stringer was looking at an image of my insides. he and Dr. McCormick were whispering things to each other. Percy was now in scrubs, and looked a bit ridiculous, but I didn't have the strength to laugh.
"Mrs. Jackson, we have some bad news. One of your babies, the boy we suspect, is breach. His head is where his legs are supposed to be. If you give birth to him naturally he will die." percy got a pained expression on his face.
"is there... anything you can... do?" I mumbled. Dr. McCormick nodded.
"We may be able to do a c-section. That's when we cut open your abdomen to deliver the babies. The baby could still die, but it's a lesser chance." She smiled and came to my side. percy held my hand tight.
"if it saves our babies," I glanced at Percy, "then I'll do it." Percy beamed at my courage. I knew that it was the right thing.
At about 4:55, the first baby was born. It was a little girl. As Audrey claned her she told me that she had gray eyes and black hair. As I held the girl, Percy held his first born son. He had green eyes and jet black hair, just like Perce.
"Hello mini me!" Percy crooned.
At around 7:00 AM, Sally, Sophia, and Paul came. Percy took pictures of everything- Sophia holding her siblings, Sally and me, paul and me, Sophia and me, and the babies and me.
"What are their names, mommy?" Sophia asked.
"I don't know yet sweetie. What do you thgink we should call them?" Sophia didn't hear me. She just continued to walk around and look at everything. Sally said,
"What did you think of the names I mentioned at the shower and in the email?" There was this gleam in her eye that reminded me so much of the perfect mother I had always wanted. She was like my second mother. Or maybe third.
"I loved them! Orion and Selena are so pretty. What do you think Percy?" Percy smiled.
"Well, if we are going to remember the dead, then let's do Orion Charles Jackson and Selena Bianca Jackson. Or Selena Zoe Jackson."
"My ideas were Orion Charles and Selena Bianca, percy! You think just like me honey." Sally teased. Sophia sat next to me, Percy, Sally, and Paul stood above me. I knew Athena and Posiedon were watching right now. It felt perfect. This was the family I had always wanted. This is what I thought Luke promised me, though I would never tell Percy that. This is where I was meant to be now. I'd saved the world already. I was so happy.
"I like Orion Charles and Selena Bianca." I announced.
So there you have it. The names for two of my wonderful children. Sophia, Orion (we're going to call him Rion), and Selena.
