Drinks With My Daughter?

I woke up to my phone ringing. Thalia, naturally, was calling me at 2:30 am.  I groaned as Percy chuckled, pulling a pillow over his head.

"What?" I said, my voice scratchy and harsher than I intended.

"Geez, someone's bear-like this morning." Thalia sounded far too chipper for this time of NIGHT.

"It's- not- morning- yet." I forced myself out of bed, knowing that if I fell asleep during our phone call, something bad would happen.

"Well, my mind is open 24/7." Thalia laughed, "And currently has a brilliant idea."

Oh no. This was the problem about half-bloods; our brilliant ideas (excluding Athena kids) are horrendously un-brilliant.

"What is it this time?" I asked, though the thought of Thalia's mind sent a shiver up my back.

"We're taking Sophia to a bar."

"We're doing what now?" My brain was not processing this. Take my own daughter out for drinks? That seemed unimaginably wrong. What did I tell you about half-blood ideas?

"I knew you'd like it!"

"Like it? That's an understatement. I-"

"Adore it? I know. She's 21, and home for the week, and Logan's away, so... yeah. See you guys at 9! We're going to rule Boston tonight."

She hung up with a bang, and I headed to the bookshelf- I had a sinking feeling that there wouldn't be a book on taking your 21 year old out for drinks.

"Mom," Sophia came downstairs, groggier than usual. "Is it true?"

"Is what true?" I asked, pushing her her cup of coffee.

"You, Thalia, and I are going out for-"

"Mani-pedis? Yes, I finally gave in," I looked nervously at Percy, knowing that if he heard I was taking Sophia out for drinks, he'd either kill me or come with us, and both of those options seemed equally awful. Especially with Thalia going.

"But I thought-"

"Honey," I tried to make it obvious to her that we were in fact going elsewhere, but she didn't seem to get it.

"Alright, Mom, geez. We're going to get mani-pedis. Great. I'm going back to bed."

Percy looked at me suspiciously. "What was that about?" He asked, smiling at me.

"Oh, I don't know." I lied, scampering away before he broke my lie into a million tiny shards of 'oops.'

The day seemed to drag on, every second spent dreading going out. My mom never took me out for drinks, nor did my step-mom. Yet here was my best friend, my daughter's aunt, practically blackmailing me into it? Something was not right in that picture.

Yet somehow, when Thalia beeped the car horn at 9 o'clock, and Percy gave me a look that said something along the lines of 'Midnight Pedicures? Why?', I smiled. Maybe tonight wouldn't be completely awful.

"Have fun!" Percy called as Sophia hopped in the backseat.

"We will!" Thalia shouted back, laughing as we drove off into the night. I hadn't been out for drinks in forever. Probably not since the twins were born. But I remembered everything perfectly, and I knew that I was going to end up driving home.

We parked in front of some house where Thalia's friends lived, and walked to Percy's favorite bar in Boston. Everything inside was blue, from the lights to the drinks to the art and decor. Music pumped loudly, and dozens of bodies made the air stale and smell faintly of sweat and strongly of alcohol. My favorite.

"What'll it be, ladies?" The bartender said, clearly making eyes at Sophia.

"Three vodka tonics," Thalia answered, taking a seat at the bar. She gulped the glass down quickly, and asked for another. I hoped Sophia wouldn't follow her example, yet my luck was obviously running low.

By 11 o'clock, I'd asked the bartender to cut them off twice, but they kept going back for more, and he seemed to do anything for Sophia. Thalia was plastered, and Sophia wasn't much better. I decided it was time to go, before Thalia puked on someone, or Sophia revealed that half-bloods were real. I imagine this is what Percy felt like when we were in the Lotus Hotel when we were 12.

"I don't wanna go!" Thalia whined like a 3-year old begging for mercy from the bathtub.

"I don't care, Thals, we're leaving." I grabbed her arm, yanking her toward the exit. Sophia followed at my heels slowly, muttered something about Logan taking her home.

"We're engaged, you know," She said as we exited the bar. I decided to take a mental note of that comment in case it was true, but I decided not to bring it up when she looked like she could puke at any given time.

I drove to the nearest Marriott, paying quickly for a room. Thalia crashed on the bed, and Sophia wouldn't stop making vulgar puking noises in the bathroom.

"You okay?" I asked, peeking in.

"Gods, no. Why did you let me drink that much?" It was four a.m. now. Sophia was still sprawled on the bathroom floor.

"I tried to stop you," I said slowly, "But the bartender was clearly into you, and gave you whatever you asked for."

"I don't remember any of that. Are you sure?" A concerned look dawned on her face, and I waited for the shocker line to come.

"Positive." I was silent for minute, then said, "Wait- there's something else."

"Yeah?"

"Back there, when we were leaving, you-" I dropped my voice to a whisper, even though Thalia was conked out. "You said you and Logan were engaged."

Her face turned beet red. "Uh-" I raised my eyebrows. She looked at the floor, then back up at me slowly. "Well, it was when we were 17-"

"YOU GOT ENGAGED AT 17?!?!?!" I guess by that point I realized Thalia wasn't going to hear anything.

"It wasn't for real!" She threw her hands up in defeat. "Well, maybe it was, but we weren't technically engaged. Logan is jsut constantly thinking about how we're half-bloods, and how we don't know how long we have until... you know... So..."

"So you are?" I gasped. "In college?" Sophia nodded. I slid down to the floor, completely stunned. My daughter was engaged.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Hey guys! I know a bunch of you have been waiting for Sophia to reveal this... and Percy will find out soon too... I hope you like his reaction!

Anyway, this is sort of a different chapter, being at a bar and all... please forgive me for my minimal knowledge of bars haha I don't really frequent them ever, not that I'm even allowed to go to bars ;)

Not much to say today... finished re-reading The Chamber of Secrets!

Well:

QUESTION OF THE CHAPTER: If I was to do a sequel, whose POV would you want it to be in?

XOXO
