Thanksgiving

It was Thanksgiving once again, and the leaves that had been stubbornly stuck to the trees all summer were finally giving in to the cold. I was busy running around with seemingly endless duties on my mind that I wasn't surprised to hear yelling coming from downstairs.

"Mom! How are we supposed to dress the salad?" Taylor screamed from the kitchen, where she was slaving away at a pomegranate cranberry salad I'd never heard of.

"I don't know! Check the directions!" I sighed, pulling the covers over the bed in Sophia's room. The only way we'd be able to fit everyone  was if Sophia and Logan shared a room. I knew better than to tell Percy this, seeing as he didn't even know they were engaged. For some mysterious reason called experience, I knew he wouldn't take the news well.

"Mom," Luke panted from the doorway. "They're here." And the games began. I stumbled down the stairs, hoping Percy was in an exceptional mood when he came home from the bakery; I had let him go get the pies, and the probability that they'd all come back untouched and uneaten was very slim.

"Mom!" Sophia smiled, Logan's arm around her shoulder. She fiddled with the ring on her finger, which sparkled subtly in the November sun. "Oh gods, I've missed you so so much!" I wrapped my arms around her, giving her a hug.

"Nice ring," I whispered. I pulled away after that, giving Logan a hug. It seemed so strange that they'd lasted this long, but who was I to judge? I'd known Percy since I was 12, and we were still happily together.

"It's so nice of you to have us for Thanksgiving, Mrs.-"

"Logan," I dropped my voice, leaning in to whisper. "You're practically family now. Please, you can call me Annabeth." He raised his eyebrows, giving Sophia a 'she knows?' look, and she smiled. "I know the whole story, Logan. Just don't flaunt it around Percy, you know how he gets..."

They moved on to the kitchen, where Taylor's face was red with hardwork and victory. "This is amazing!" Logan smiled, tasting a bite. The doorbell's ring made the room go silent. Lena or Rion was behind that door. And they'd each seemed as though they weren't coming alone.

I moved to open the door, my heart beating. Was Rion going to be with Lauren? Was Lena going to be with someone new? I opened the door, my jaw dropping to the floor. Rion had finally moved on.

"Hey Mom!" He smiled, wrapping me in a hug. When he returned to the girl's side, they locked hands. "Mom, this is Emma Spencer, my girlfriend."

Emma was stunning. Her dirty blonde hair was tied into a neat bun, and her brown eyes were some of the most sincere I'd ever seen. The way she looked at Rion was so different from the way Lauren had- Emma seemed like she saw a world of possibility there for them; Lauren had always been a few paces ahead of Rion.

"It's so nice to meet you, Mrs. Jackson. Rion's told me so much about you." Emma smiled, putting out her hand for me to shake.

"It's nice to meet you too, Emma. And you really can call me Annabeth- we aren't too formal around here." As if that wasn't apparent enough, Luke managed to shatter yet another wine glass, making it three this week. Just as Rion was about to close the door, Lena walked in, on the arm of a boy who looked suspiciously like Peter Parker (aka Spiderman). "Lena! You've changed so much!"

She had. Ever since she and Danny broke it off, she'd had a melancholy look about her, but now with the new guy in her life, she seemed revived. The bright colored clothing that had prevously been nonexsistent was now all over her, and the smile that I'd missed all summer was back and bigger than ever. "You could tell? I didn't think the haircut was that obvious!" I laughed, trying to follow her story, but to be honest, I saw no change in her hair. "Mom, this is Nathan Connolly."

I smiled, shaking Nathan's hand, and looking between the two of them. I raised by eyebrows in Lena's direction, and she nodded discreetly, confirming my hope- she's moved on too.

"Can I talk to you for a second, Mom? Alone?" The face Lena now sported was much more serious.

"Sure- Taylor, hold down the fort for me?" Then I followed Lena into the study. "What is it?"

"Mom," Lena looked out at Nathan, who was already getting to know Rion and Logan. "He isn't one of us."

I looked at her, confused. "What do you mean?"

"I mean," Lena sighed, "That Nathan isn't a halfblood." I tried to mask my surprise. I'd figured one of my kids  would end up with a mortal, but I'd doubted it would be Lena.

"Can he see through the Mist?"

"I think so... but he has no idea we even exsist, so try not to bring anything up, okay?"

"Okay," I promised just as Percy walked in.

"Geez, we have a house full of strangers!" Percy said, putting down the pies. "Hey Wise-" I cut him off with a kiss, explaining the situation to him in five seconds. He nodded. "Well, what I was trying to say is that Wise Bakery messed up our order, and we only have two pies-"

"Mmhmm. Then why do you smell like apple pie?" His face turned beet red as he went to go give everyone a hug or introduction. Naturally, he went to the closest kid first- Sophia.

"Hey, Dad!" He smiled, wrapping her in a bear hug.

"Ow!" Percy winced, pulling Sophia's arms away. "Are you wearing a ring or something? And trying to impale me with it?" He checked Sophia's hands, and turned pale white.

"Dad..." Sophia began, "There's something I've been meaning to tell you... Logan and I are engaged."

"Since when? Why didn't you tell us?" The beer he was holding shattered in his hands.

"Since we were 17." Logan admitted. Percy looked like he was going to puke.

"Where have I been?" He turned to Taylor next, shaking. "Please tell me you're not engaged too?"

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Hey guys! How are you? Hopefully better than I am- my brother got me sick, and so I had to stay home from school today, which I hate doing.

What did you think of the chapter? And the revelation? I've finally figured out my plan for Rion and Lena's love lives, so you're in for a rollercoaster ride. Just a heads up.

Not much to say today, probably because I'm half-asleep and can't feel my feet, but as always:
