Percy and Annabeth-Their future

If I Won

Rion had been obsessed with the lottery since he'd recieved a winning $5.00 ticket on Christmas in his stocking. So every Wednesday after dinner, he and Percy walked down to the corner store and bought the cheap lottery tickets. And each day, he won a dollar, or maybe two. 

But then he realized that there was a lottery ticket where you can win millions of dollars. And that had become his new obsession. 

"Rion, what on earth would you do if you won 156 million dollars?" The kids were sitting at the table eating dinner while I worked in the office. Percy was away at Camp helping Chrion set up for some surprise party. 

"Yeah, Rion, what would you do?" Taylor's head rested on her hand, her eyes wandering outside. The snow had almost completely melted, and it was only March 13, which was quite nice condsidering the last few weeks had been nothing but snow and ice.

"I'd buy 27 cars," Luke smiled, eating his 3rd taco of the night. I couldn't believe he and Taylor were almost 10... Double Digits is a big deal.

"That's pretty selfish, Lukey," Taylor muttered, picking at her rice.

"I'd donate all of it to charity," Lena said. "Probably St. Judes, or Unicef." She expertly braided, then unbraided, her dark hair. 

"I'd save it up for college, and then save the rest." Sophia was like that... she'd never spend her money if she didn't absolutely have to.

"I'd go on vacation with the whole family." Taylor smiled, clearly dreaming of all the amazing vacations we'd taken over the years. I couldn't focus on my work with such an interesting chat going on!

"I dunno. I just think it'd be cool, you know?" Rion took out the lottery ticket in his pocket and smiled. "If I won, I would... I would share it with you guys too."

Four days later, it was St. Patricks Day. The kids all donned their green clothes, and Taylor even spray-painted a streak in her hair. 

St. Patricks Day at their school was huge. There were parties all day, filled with green, green, green. It wasn't even like the Irish population in our town was huge... I mean, it was a lot, but not as many as you'd think. 

Anyway, the kids came home from school greener than they'd went, and Rion held his lottery ticket as he walked through the front door. He ran upstairs, and we didn't see him for a while. 

From 4:00 until 5:30, Lena and Sophia helped me get the green off Taylor. She was literally green from head to toe. It was nearly impossible to get off. It didn't help that she'd used real spray-paint on her hair, and real paint on her arms and legs. To say the least, I was a tad frustrated- I honestly didn't want a green monster for a child for the next 3 to 5 weeks. If you find that surprising, then you do not know me very well. 

So when Rion came running down the stairs screaming like a little girl, my immediate response was between a growl and a huff. 

"Rion, you know how I feel about screaming in the house! Please, quiet voices inside!" He didn't seem to care, because he ran outside and just kept screaming.

"Give me a second, girls. I have to go deal with your brother." Lena and Sophia shared a nervous glance, almost as if to say, 'Thank Gods Its NOT Us.'

"Rion, are we going to have to start living by exact words in this house, because the-" I couldn't finish my sentence. Rion caem barrelling up to me and gave me a bear hug. 

"I WON!" Rion's eyes were huge, I thought they might pop out of his head.

"What? Won what?" He flailed something in front of my face.

"THIS!!!!!" I looked at him, puzzled.

"Oh, did you donate a winning coat at the coat drive?" Rion gave me an aggrevated look. 

"The lottery! I won the lottery, in Hades' name!" It took me a moment for my brain to process. My almost ten year old son won the lottery? How could that be? He wasn't even legally allowed- he'd done it all under Percy's name. 

"How?" I couldn't believe it, but it wasn't that I didn't want to. Living on a teacher and part-time architect's salary is not always the easiest. 

"I dunno! I had the right numbers! I won!" He darted past me, yelling to Luke about how they were going to be rich. I just stood there, paralyzed. Percy drove in the drive way, and walked up to meet me.

"Hey, sweetie." He hugged me, and i still stood there. "Is everything okay?" I looked up at him, his eyes so full of genuine concern. 

"Rion won."

"Won what?"

"The lottery."

"The five-dollar lottery?" 

"No. The big one." Percy's jaw dropped. He rubbed his eyes, shakinghis head. 

"How much?" 

"156 million dollars." 

"Holy Zeus, that's a buttload of money..." Percy's hand ran threw his hair, his face still shell-shocked.

"Dad, I won!" Rion screamed threw his bedroom window.

"I heard," Percy whispered.

Hey guys! Sorry, I know this chapter was not one of my best... I just really wanted to update! I have been sick since Sunday, and was with family at my grandparent's 50th anniversary party all weekend, with no time to myself besides homework, which really stinks.
