I shook my head. I looked at Thalia, and utter shock coursed through my veins.

"You did what?" She was no longer the eighteen year old I'd known since I was thirteen.

"I quit. I am not a huntress anymore." I felt like throwing up. She was thirty six.

"I'm so lonely as a huntress. I need to have a life. Artemis understood."

"Thalia, you're thirty six now. You look so..."

"Old? I know, but I like it."

"Why did you do it?" I watched as the kids played outside with Paige and Percy. Paige had been staying at our house for two weeks now. She still was shy around my hero of a husband. But she and Thalia had gotten closer....

"You did it for Paige?" Thalia sighed and looked at the ground.

"I felt bad for her, Annabeth. She's lost everything. She reminds me  of myself." Thalia was right. Paige lost her mother, just like Thalia. They both hated their mothers. They lost the male figure in their life. Jason and whoever Paige's boyfriend was. But Jason and Thalia reunited; I hoped it would be the same with Paige.

The one thing that kept nagging me in the back of my head was Luke. I had a feeling that Thalia had done it for him too.

"What role does Luke play in this?" Thalia allowed herself to be completely vulnerable for a moment.

"I loved him like more than a brother. I feel like I need to help Paige in order to help Luke, you know? You already gave him the chance to be with you as a son. I need to be able to be with him through his own daughter." I smiled.

"How are you planning on helping Paige?" I really wondered what level she was taking this to.

"I want to adopt her, in a way. I want her to be my daughter." I gasped. I had never ever imagined Thalia as a mother. Ever. It was so uncharacteristic of her that I almost laughed. But this was serious.

"Where will you live?" I asked, hoping she said Hingham. I needed her here.

"I don't know where yet, but probably here. I have enough money to buy a little house. Probably only a little two bedroom house, though."

"Well, I'm impressed. I had no idea you were going to take it to that level."

"Me neither," Thalia laughed, and I joined her.

"What about work?" I wondered what she'd say to that. I wasn't trying to rain on her parade; I was just being realistic.

"I want to open a cafe at the moment. Greek and Roman themed!"

"Again, uncharacteristic." We laughed.

"When will you tell her?"

"Now? I dunno. What if she doesn't want to?"

"Then you know. Ask her!" I shooed Thalia away.

"Paige! Can I talk to you?" Paige looked up and raised her eyebrows.

"Thalia? Is that you?" Thalia nodded, her face scared.

"Okay, I'll be right there." Paige put Luke down and walked over.

"What's up?" Thalia smiled at me and I nodded.

"Paige, you remind me a lot of myself. And I know that right now, you don't really have a family..."

"Are you-"

"I was wondering," Thalia gulped and looked at me, more scared than I'd ever seen her, "if, um, you'd, uh, want to have me as a.... a step mom." Paige's eyes were wide.

"I knew Luke. I need to do this for him. Annabeth has helped him already. Now it's my turn. We knew Luke before... you know." Paige sighed and pursed her lips.

"Thalia, I really like you. There is so much I want to know taht I think only you could tell me. I would, honestly, love to have you as a mother." Thalia cried, and Paige did too. They hugged, and I smiled, wiping a tear from my own eye. I had never seen Thalia so raw, so unguarded. It was a new side of her that I wish I'd known earlier.

{A month later}

"This is a really nice place, Thalia." I smiled at the small blue house that Thalia had bought. Paige beamed, and so did Thalia.

"It needs work," she stated as she looked from me to her new daughter, "but Paige and I are going to work hard and make it ours." Paige hugged Thalia.

"What about the cafe?" I asked. Paige glanced at Thalia.

"It's going to open in a month, probably."

"What will you call it?" I beamed at Thalia, and I could tell that she was happy as a clam.

"We aren't sure yet," Paige answered for Thalia and smiled.

{5 Days Later}

"Is this the color you want in Paige's room,Thals?" Percy screamed from across the house. We had left the littles with Sally and Paul, but Sophia was with us. She sat around and drank juice boxes more than help, but that was okay.

Percy and I had offered our services to Thalia and Paige, and already the place was looking better. We had painted the beadboard living room white, and we gave Thalia some furniture that we hadn't used in forever. We had painted Thalia's room a pale blue-gray color. She had framed the pictures Paige had given her of her as a baby. She had an album with Camp memories on her dresser. Paige's room was blue and brown. We painted stripes that were thick and blod. She loved it. The bathrooms were another story. They were old and outdated. We gave those to Percy. He was busy ripping out tile and carrying all of the heavy stuff. We had started working two days before. The batahrooms were the last things on our list.

Thalia and I had picked out everything together. After three days, it looked perfect. The kitchen had been updated, but we had done everything else. We had planted little flowers outside, and everything was perfect.

{A Week Later}

"We're officially done!" Thalia shouted. She hugged Paige and I smiled. The furniture was all in, and the house was livable. But I think the best part of it all was the bonding for Paige and Thalia. I wondered how their story would go. I hoped it ended well.
