Looking at his unconscious body on the cold, metal lab table, a surge of guilt passed through my whole being. Time sat still as I took in his still silhouette, the empty shell of his body that remained in front of us while the rest of him floated along in a state of slumber. Though I knew that I did nothing to cause this tragic occurrence, I couldn't help but feel somewhat responsible for what happened to him. Ever since I came around, I've been leaving a trail that many dangerous people seemed to follow. Looking around at my newfound friends, silence lingered within the tension-filled atmosphere as we scattered about the lab.
Taking a quick peek across the room, I noticed that Jagger had sat on a counter, his face placed drearily in his hand. For being the newest inductee into the organization, it was clear that all of this stress was affecting him as well as it was the rest of us.
Hustling and bustling all around the lab, Lily paced over toward us as she carried a laptop from the back room that was connected to the lab. " Taj, how are his vitals?" Her lips pressed together in seriousness, a sign that she was under a lot of stress.
Taj looked over his shoulder and towards Lily. " Stable once again. At least we got his heart working again. I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty terrifying to see Master in such a state. It can only get better from here, though I don't ever want to have to experience this again."
" I second that motion," Raine replied while crossing her arms over her chest. Her blue eyes had their usual coldness to them, but there was a certain type of vulnerability to them as well. This only made me assume that she deeply cares for Shadow. She must see him as a father figure like Kratos does, so I could only imagine what's happening beneath her cool composure.
" So how much longer until he wakes up?" I asked, cutting the thick tension that lingered in the air. Seeing him laying there like a pale, unconscious puppet was honestly terrifying, so I could understand where Taj was coming from.
"Not sure if we should talk about that yet," said Kratos. "Don't think we have a certain timeframe saying how deep that cut looks. We should be more focused on getting him better than worrying about time."
Taj flashed Kratos a bright smile." Actually, I think we do have a timeframe." Turning to face towards me, I noticed the bags underneath Taj's eyes. He looked exhausted, but I love how he manages to stay energetic in times like this. Turning towards me, he continued, "It shouldn't be too long, beautiful Breaker. I would say about a day or two, three more tops."
Lily walked over next to Taj and put an arm around his shoulder. They both looked down at Shadow, tears welling within their eyes.
Lily took her arm down and looked at me. "Yeah, the plus side of being an immortal is that you are able to heal much faster than the average person. Shadow should be up in running within the next few days or so whereas it would take a human multiple weeks, if not months to heal from a cut this deep. Whatever weapon was used against him sure sliced him up pretty good."
"Speaking of slices, I could really go for some pizza right about now," said Taj, patting his stomach.
Raine scoffed, "Seriously Taj, you're dealing with someone else's life here and you're worried about ordering food? How pathetic." Irritatedly, she shook her head back and forth. "I can't believe you people."
"Hey, we all have to eat," Taj said, innocently shrugging.
Jagger hopped off of the counter, "Not like we could get delivery anyway. We're in a 'hidden' location." He emphasized the word hidden by making quotations with his hands in the air. "Plus, it's not like any of us could leave."
