Chapter 38: Anticipation (Kratos)

" Taj. Raine. We're gonna need another lab table."

Raine cooperatively nodded as she and Taj ran into the closet of the lab to fetch a vacant table.

Charlotte spoke up, her chocolate eyes brimmed with tears. " So will he eventually wake up at least?"

"I'm not sure. I'm thinking that since his wound is now healed, he should wake up pretty soon. We just need some energy potions to revive both him and KL," Lily replied. She glanced over at Nox and Airilice. " Which, by the way, I need you two to make."

" Me?" Airilice asked, pointing to herself in confusion. From the look of it, she had absolutely no clue how to do so and I honestly didn't know what Lily was thinking. The poor girl was a newbie here, she had no idea how the usual procedure ran.

" Yes," Lily replied to her, nodding. Raine and Taj came out, rolling another metal lab table into the already crowded room.

" Taj, get some machines for me please. We need to hook KL to them asap," Lily politely demanded.

" I'm on it Lily flower," he said, playfully flashing her a wink. She rolled her eyes and focused back on the computer screen that was a colorful display of all of Shadow's vitals. Jagger moved toward the vacant lab table, carrying KL. I was irritated that he was still carrying her, but she did fall right around the part of the room that he was at, and what was I to do about it? Walking over toward them, I did my best to cooperate.

" Here Jagger. Lay her down gently. Here, I'll help you." I grabbed KL's legs and gently placed them down on the table as Jagger placed her torso on the table, gently laying her head down. I walked over to her and brushed her hair out of her face. Jagger's eyes scanned over me for a quick second. As I looked at him, he averted his attention and cleared his throat.

" What?" I asked.

" Nothing," he shrugged. " I just hope she wakes soon."

" As we all do," I replied.

" Lily, I have a potion!" Nox excitedly exclaimed, waving around a vile of a glowing green, bubbly liquid.

"Nice timing Nox," she replied, swiftly snatching the vile from him and sending him a bright smile.

Jagger's face contorted to one of disgust, "Oh, that looks horrible. What's in there?"

" It has many herb extracts in it and the Curas put a bit of their healing power into it too. It works as both an energy booster and a healing aid."

His emerald eyes shining right along with the vile, he stared at it in amusement and disgust." I feel so bad for whoever is going to drink that. That looks so disgusting."

Jagger's remark made a smile form on Lily's face as she made her way over to Shadow. She parted his lips and poured the horrible, slimy liquid into his mouth. Her lips pursed together.

" I sure hope this works," she whispered into the atmosphere.

All of us standing and staring, silence surrounded the crowd. We waited and anticipated to see some sort of sign, some sort of progress from Shadow. All taking hopeful glances at one another, tears brimmed all of our eyes. The tension in the room was so thick that you could practically cut it with a knife.

All of us too afraid to step forward and get a closer look, I decided to be the first to move closer toward his body. Hopeful that I wouldn't lose grasp of my emotional stability, I took slow but steady steps forward until his body laid right before me. I could feel multiple pairs of eyes watching me with every step that I took forward. Bracing myself for the worst, I peered down at Shadow and let out a gasp of air that was trapped within me.
