After everyone had cleared out, Shadow, Kratos, and I were the only people left in the lab.
" I just don't understand how this is possible," Kratos said, shaking his head in a puzzled manner. "Why didn't the machine detect it in the first place?"
Shadow shrugged as he stared at the data on his computer screen, " I'm not sure. It's just peculiar that all of these crazy things led up to a Breaker coming here of all places."
" Would you rather her have been found by our enemies?" Kratos snipped. He cooly crossed his arms across his chest, staring intently at his master.
" You know I wasn't implying that. It's just odd how you went out to track down Xeria and somehow ended up bringing KL here," Shadow replied, brushing off the coldness of Kratos' question.
This was about the second or third time that I have heard mention of Xeria, and I still had no idea what that word meant. Letting curiosity get the best of me, I spoke up. "What is Xeria? I heard you mention the word before, but as you can see, all of these crazy things have been happening."
Shadow smiled, " It's not a question of what, young one. It's a question of who."
" So Xeria's a person?"
Shadow nodded, " Correct."
" As a matter of fact, she was the person I was hunting down before all of this happened. She was my original assignment. Then I found you," Kratos said, making eye contact with me for the first time since last night. His blue eyes had a certain twinkle to them that took my breath away.
" KL was never an assignment," Shadow stated.
"I wasn't implying that," Kratos mocked. Shadow rolled his eyes in response to Kratos' obnoxious behavior.
" She was something that you took risk on. Normally, I wouldn't be happy with any of you going off task, but it seemed necessary this time around. For once," Shadow said, swiveling in his chair to face Kratos, " I'm glad that you broke the rules." Kratos lifted his head a bit higher in pride.
Though I had my question answered, I wanted to know more about this Xeria. Who exactly was she and why was Kratos assigned to find her?
"You okay KL?" Kratos asked, snapping me out of my train of thought.
"Huh? Oh-yeah,yeah. Just thinking."
"About?"
" I was just curious as to who Xeria is and why she's so important."
Shadow smiled, "Of course you would be."
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?"
He smiled and his grey eyes looked up to meet mine, "You just happen to be one of the more curious critters around here."
"Critters?"
"Just an expression, dear," he said, chuckling to himself. " And to answer your question, Xeria Reina had been tracked in the outside world, but she has showed sign of immortal activity. The League of Guardians- who are the people a tier above me- asked if I could send someone out to track her down and bring her here."
I nodded, " I remember you mentioning this a little bit earlier."
Shadow nodded and moved out of his chair stand next to Kratos, "Yes, but the last time I didn't really get to go into depth with the conversation. You see, The League of Guardians is made up of three men-two who are considered ancient in the time of us immortals- who watch over the activity of us immortals. There is Augustine, the leader, and his two henchmen Marcel-Oliver and Bartholomew. They're quiet and do not often intervene with things unless it will lead to ultimate chaos for our species. Sometimes they need tasks done, and since they know many of the masters around the nation, they will contact some of us to do these tasks. In this instance, they had been tracking this girl down-"
