Chapter 16

Mother

Abandoned US Army Base

Zod and Lord Superman had led Barry, Diana, Terry, and Lex to an underground, abandoned United States Army base that was about three miles away from Metropolis. This was where Zod and his resistance's headquarters were. At the abandoned United States Army base were hundreds of soldier and dozens of computers to track Professor Zoom's moves.

"Who's he?" Zod questioned, "He's wearing an emblem similar to Danica's."

"He's the original Flash, Barry Allen." Lex told Zod.

"He seems like he hasn't aged a bit. Why is that?" Zod asked.

"I time traveled here." Barry told Zod. Zod didn't believe Barry, "No seriously."

"He's telling the truth, boy." Lex told Zod.

"Is he Jason's replacement?" Zod turned to his mother. Zod realized Jason wasn't there.

"No Zod, Jason could never be replaced." Terry answered.

"If you can time travel, why don't you change the past?" Lord Superman questioned Barry, changing the subject, "Make it so none of this ever happened."

"I'm a speedster, like Thawne." Barry replied, "We're both connected to the Speed Force. Since we're both connected, there's not enough Speed Force to allow me to travel back in time."

"So he needs to die." Zod knew what had to be done.

"There's another way, I know there is. I just don't know what that other way is." Barry stated.

"But for now, our only option is to kill him." Lord Superman said, "Right?"

"Yes, Kal." Diana told her Ex Husband.

"We can't do that." Zod uttered. "In Gotham, you may have murdered but in Metropolis, it's different. We still honor our moral codes." Barry knew he was going to get along with Zod very well.

"We need to take this son of a bitch down. I don't want to live in this hellhole." Lord Superman spoke.

"Zod, may I talk to you, in private?" Diana asked her son.

"Fine." Zod lead Diana to a bedroom west of the room that they were currently in. The room was about 45 square feet with a blue bed in it.

"Zod, I've missed you." Diana told her son.

"You abandoned me, again." Zod replied, angrily.

"I thought you were dead, I thought Thawne had killed you!" Diana yelled. "If I had known you were alive, I would've helped you."

"Well you didn't Mother. You left me to die." Zod said.

"Zod, you know I cared about you, I still do." Diana sighed, "I want to say, I'm sorry I couldn't help you, I'm sorry I left you."

"That's not your only problem." Zod stated, "You're a murderer now, aren't you? All of you are."

"Zod, we had to change, this isn't like the past." Diana said.

"Who isn't a murderer in Gotham?" Zod questioned.

"Barry isn't. Barry wants us to change back to the heroes we once were. But he's living in a fantasy, he's believing in the impossible." Diana answered.

"We're all living in a fantasy! There are people flying around with superpowers, he's allowed to believe in the impossible!" Zod shouted at his mother, "He's the only hero, isn't he? He's the only one who thinks we're actually going to beat Thawne, he's the only one with hope."

"Yes." Diana bowed her head and let two tears slip out of her eyes. "Zod, I'm proud of you. All the hells you've been through, you haven't given up your morality. I would've thought you would be the first."

"That's because you never had hope for me." Zod said, "You saw my father in me."

"No Zod, I saw myself." Diana expressed. Zod's jaw dropped, "I really am proud of you for not becoming like me or your father. I am glad Clark and Bruce taught you well."

Zod walked away, feeling something for his mother. He actually cared about her, something he didn't do in decades. Zod also realized she cared, she may have not been a great mother but she really did care. Zod got a little teary eyed.

"I'm done talking about this subject. We need to discuss what our plans with the others." Zod said.
