Chapter 8

One Bad Day

Batcave

Thawne and his Soldiers entered the Batcave and saw Jason holding a dead man's switch and an RPG. Jason was wearing his Red Hood helmet and a brown leather jacket. Once they saw Jason, they pointed their guns at him but Thawne kept them from shooting. He realized Jason was holding a dead man's switch.

"Hello Thawne." Jason greeted as Thawne moved passed his soldiers, approaching Jason. "Ah, ah, ah! One step closer, I take my finger of this switch and the whole damn Cave goes down in pieces, along with everything in it."

"Oh please Jason, you know I'm fast enough to stop you." Thawne fired back.

"No you're not. If my finger, and specifically my finger, goes off this switch, we die. If the switch reads a fingerprint that isn't mine, we die. This switch was specifically designed for me, and me alone Thawne." Jason laughed.

"Get out of here." Thawne commanded his soldiers.

"If I see one of your soldiers leave the Cave, again, we die." Jason said. "Face it Thawne, you've been outsmarted."

"No I haven't. You could've easily left the Cave with the others and set a trap here for us but you didn't. You want to die, don't you Jason?" Thawne asked.

"I don't mind losing my life, if it means you losing your's too." Jason stated.

"But why not go with your friends? You could've easily killed me without having to risk yourself." Thawne figured out.

"You're right Thawne, I do want to die. I'd rather die than live in the hellhole you created. But as much as I want to die, I want you dead too, so why not kill two birds with one stone?" Jason knew he was worrying Thawne.

"You know Jason, you and I have more in common than you think. We've both been played by people who we've trusted. You've been played by Bruce, I've been played by the every single world government. They lied to us, left us to rot. Why do you want to kill me so much? I'm exactly like you. Is it because the almighty Queen Diana of Theymscira what's you too?" Thawne questioned.

"No, it's because of what you did to the world! You turned Earth into Apokolips, Thawne and you expect me not to want to kill you?" Jason retaliated.

"Did I really turn this world into what it is today? Every political leader on the planet wanted to kill each other. Put the pieces together, I've released files everywhere explaining how political leaders promised to give me the money to send me home. Now, why would they give me that money if they were uncertain if I was even from the future?" Thawne explained.

"You corrupted them. It had to be you!" Jason yelled while holding up his dead man's switch.

"Jason, they were already corrupted, can't you see that? They hired me to kill each other in exchange for a way back home. I was just the hitman through all this. I didn't pull any strings. In fact, I didn't really do anything except do what our 'leaders' told me to do." Thawne told his story. "Jason, I'll give you a chance to join me, we'll convince your friends to join me too. No one else has to die."

"No, no one else has to die, except you and me and everyone else in this fucking Cave." Jason lifted his finger off the trigger and the cave exploded.

Through the smoke and fire, the Man in the Yellow Suit appeared. Thawne's suit protected him from fires and explosions. There were fires all around Thawne. He put his hand above a fire that was burning from one of his dead soldier's body. Thawne then saw Jason's Red Hood Mask laying on it's side with ash marks all over it. Thawne picked it up and examined it.

"All it takes it one bad day to drive the sanest man to lunacy. All it took was one bad day, to lead the world on the path to what it is today." Thawne talked to himself. Thawne then dropped the mask and walked away, towards the rest of his men in the city.
