"Because..." He trails off. "I thought it would make you feel better, cause you are amazing just the way you are." He smiles warmly.
"Oh, thanks. And where did you get your guitar it's so freakin' cool!" I shout worshiping it.
"The music store a few minutes away from here 'Perfect Harmony'." he chuckles.
"How much?" I ask earnestly.
"I don't think you wanna know." He shakes his head.
"Oh, that much huh? Guess I need to start saving up! Can I at least play it?" I make the cutest puppy dog face I can manage.
"What do I get out of it?" He arches an eyebrow.
"You get to witness my amazing guitar playing." I giggle.
"Not enough... Oh, you have to go somewhere with me." He negotiates.
"Fine, just let me play it!!" I whine as he hands me his precious guitar. "Yes!"
I look at him while thinking of a song to sing for him, and I find one "Falling For You' By Colbie Calliet.
"I don't know but, I think I maybe
Falling for you, dropping so quickly
Maybe I should, keep this to myself
Wait until I know you better
I am trying not to tell you but, I want to
I'm scared of what'll you'll say
So I'm hiding what I'm feeling, tired of holding this inside my head.
I've been waiting all my life and now I've found you
I don't know what to do, I think I'm falling for you
I'm falling for you."
I sing my heart out loking into Devon's confused blue eyes as he listens intently.
"Oh I just can't take it, my heart is racing
Emotions keep spinning out
I've been spending all my time, just thinking about you
I don't know what to do I think I'm falling for you
I've been waiting all my life and, now I've found you
I think I'm falling for you, I'm falling for you
I can't stop thinking about it, I want you all around me
And now I just can't hide it, I think I'm falling for you
I'm falling for you."
I strum the last chord and I feel a wave of embarrassment wash through me. Why did I pick that song? I look over at Devon questioningly but, he has a blank expression on his face.
"Uh... Thanks for letting me play. OK bye!" I hand him the guitar and bolt straight for the door.
He grabs my wrist and whipping my body around to face him.
"Remember the deal? You need to go somewhere with me." He smirks.
I give up and follow him to his car. "Where are we going?" I ask.
"You'll see." he smiles.
After a few minutes of listening to music we arrive to a carnival.
"A carnival?" I raise an eyebrow at him.
"Why you don't like it?" he frowns.
"No! I love them, how did you know?" I say foolishly jumping up and down.
He shrugs and takes me by the hand pulling me towards all of the carnival games.
He stops at one of the basketball shooting areas.
"3 shots for $5." The man announces. Devon hands him a five dollar bill and giving me a quick smirk before he take his first shot and makes it in. Second shot, in. Third shot, in.
I whistle. "Way to go Mr. NBA player." He picks out the big fluffy pink panda and hands it to me. "It's so fluffy I'm gonna die!!!" I giggle shaking it about.
"Happy birthday." He grins showing his cute dimples.
"I wanna try." I take out a five dollar bill but the man rejects it.
"It's free for the birthday girl."
I pick up a basketball and dribble it a few times before making a swish right into the basket. I do this another two times, making it in both of me.
"The blue panda please." I hand it to Devon so we have matching pandas.
"Nice shooting Mrs. NBA player." He chuckles.
"Well thank you." I drag him over to the shooting range and kick his butt in it, winning the grand prize, a big stuffed duck and a pass for free food.
********* Ten games later and eight stuffed toys later... ************
I frantically pull Devon over to the cotton candy stand getting myself two.
"Not gonna share?" he cocks an eyebrow, amused.
"No! Get your own, plus it's free." I say taking a huge bite into my pink cotton candy when Devon takes a bite of mine, smirking triumphantly. Both of our faces buried in the puffy cotton candy and I notice how close our faces are. I feel his nose touch mine and it starts to tingle awkwardly.
"It's almost 7:00." I say. "I have to be home at 7:30 for a surprise party."
"If it's a surprise party why do you know about it?" He chuckles getting us tickets for the Ferris wheel.
"Mmm." I grumble noticing I just stepped into a Ferris wheel. "AHHH!! Get me out of here!" I scream just when it starts to move.
"What's wrong?" He asks taking a seat.
"I'm scared of heights and ghosts and haunted houses and stuff like that."
"Really?" he grins deviously. "Just relax." He pats the seat next to him as I take a seat.
"Devon." I whine nervously.
He wraps an arm around me, chuckling lightly at my stupidity. "Don't worry, you're safe Avery." he whispers making me shiver lightly at the mention of my name. "Look out the window"
I do as he says and see dozens of fireworks flaring up in the sky. I completely forget about being up so high and I just keep watching the bright lights and the booming.
"Avery." He says, there goes another shiver. "Happy birthday." he winks, making me want to melt into a puddle.
"Thanks." I leans in on him inviting arms as we watch the fireworks together. After a while he removes his arm from my shoulders as coldness caresses them. He turns to me with a very serious expression.
"Avery, why did you pick that song?"
