"We've found her sir." I hear a voice say. I whirl around, the annoyance showing clearly in my face. I hated being interrupted and everyone knew it. I stare at him coldly, knowing he's scared. He thinks I'd actually waste my time on him. He's just a bottom level. Like he's worth anything.

"Where? Did you send the team to get her yet?" I coldly ask.

"No sir. The team thought you may want to lead this mission. So you can be the one to find her first. Right sir?"

I ponder this thought. I did want to see the girl first. I already knew she was the one, but what harm would come from being the one to greet her? Better there than here. She is the one I'll be with forever after all. I start thinking of those gorgeous green eyes and that perfect curly brown hair. I sigh. I know they've found the right girl this time, but I'll go anyway. There's been too many devastating mistakes with the wrong girls in the past. The guy is still staring at me and I nod. "I would like to go. Tell them to be ready. Now."

He nods and walks (but any human would see it as running in a blur) out the door. I dash to my room at the top of the castle. The biggest of course. On my way there I take in every detail of the magnificent palace I call home. It's very elegant, yet somewhat medieval. All along the walls pictures of my ancestors are hanging up. Some of them really creep me out.
I arrive at my room and glance into the mirror, not seeing my reflection as usual. I smirk to myself, wondering what the point of the mirrors in this castle are. No vampires can use them, and this castle only has vampires in it.

"Sir. The team is ready to go." I hear a voice say. I spin around. It's not the stupid bottom level again, thank god. It's one of the more sensible middle levels. He's actually a pretty good mate of mine, I mean I don't have many friends here...

"Ah. Marcus. Lovely. We shall leave now then." I reply. Lets find Leila, I think to myself. Then something unusual happened. Something rare for my kind...

I smiled. Not a fake smile we sometimes make, or a smirk, nor a half smile, but a pure smile full of happiness. I've never felt this way before.

What's happening to me?

•---Liam---•

"JOSHUA. It's our shift you nimwit." I call. He's with a group of friends teaching them the best way to hurt a vampire, but he's really just showing off to the giggling girls around him.

"You see, when you strike with the flames like this, not only do you look extremely good, but the flames get them to back off for just enough time to-"

"JOSHUA GEORGE DEVINE." I angrily say. "Get your butt over here now or you'll be sorry."

Five minutes. It's been five minutes with no one on patrol. Now, in the good ol' days this wouldn't of been an issue. But now, a lot can happen in five minutes. A shifter could break in. A vampire could kill someone. A wolf could-

"Liam, mate! Sorry, I was just helping these folks out! Lets go!" He cut off my train of thought. I follow him as he grabs his armor and sword and we then head to the gate. I place my finger on the scanner, and we go out into the forest. I glance around.

"This way." I say,"The scouts from last shift went as far as Brady creek. We'll go just past it then scout back and let the next shift check out Coyote rock."

"Sounds good." Josh replies. We walk in silence for the next few minutes, keeping our senses alert. The only sound is the crunching of our boots on leaves.

"Uh, Liam, can I ask you something?" Josh nervously stutters and breaks the silence.

"Can it wait? We need to remain focused." I reply, fearing that he wants to ask me the thing I dread. I know he's been wanting to ask me for a long time, but I really don't want him to.

"Well, Liam I've kinda been wanting to talk to you about it for sometime now. Uh, I don't really know how to say this but I uhm. I kind of like Lei-"

"Josh... Look at that..." I say as calmly as I possibly can, even though I'm terrified on the inside.

"Liam don't try to-"

"JOSH LOOK NOW." I practically scream. He reluctantly looks to the spot I'm pointing at on the ground.

Not good. This is not good...

"Liam, what do we do?" Josh asks me. I can hear the fear in his voice. I glance at him.

"We go back to camp. We make sure everyone is prepared. This is what we train for Josh." I looked down at the footprints again. Maybe I was wrong...

Ha.

No, only vampires leave those footprints. I haven't been studying my whole life for nothing. They run so fast they leave a trail of lines and dust. It's clearly them... I sigh.

Vampires. Why'd it have to be Vampires?

•---Leila---•

"OWW!" I gasp. My hair was being so uncooperative today. I glare at my reflection in the mirror. "Listen up hair. You are going to be brushed. I don't have time for you to be so annoying! I need to go shoot and practice!"

My hair didn't listen. It took me another ten minutes before my brown curly hair finally calmed down. I had just started lacing up my boots when the door swung open.

"LEILA LEILA LEILA LEILA!" I hear behind me.

"Huh? Josh? What's up?" I ask.

"It'ssss... Theeeeeee... Vampaaaaa," he gasps, out of breath.

"Woaaah easy Josh! It's the what? Breath slowly."

He nods,"Vampires. Coming. Now." My eyes widen. This can't be happening...

Vampires? Coming here?
