A Wizard's Tale, Part 10

Hey guys so I just wanted to say that I picture Cami as Dianna Agron around the time when she played Quinn on glee.
Also, I attached a picture of her before and after the mysterious "transformation" that has happened to her above :)

My eyes met hers instantly. I expected to see the warm, comforting, sweet brown eyes I knew, but the eyes that greeted me were those of a stranger.
The eyes that greeted me were a dark, lifeless, dead brown. Cami's face was tense, and her skin was much more pale then the Cami I knew. Her lips weren't even the right color.
She looked like she'd gone through a transformation, and a deadly one at that.

She looked down at herself and gasped. "What... Happened... To... Me?!" A voice rang out, and it took me a moment to realize that the voice was coming from her. The voice was much... Darker than the Cami I'd known.

The girl standing in front of me was not Cami. Whatever had happened to her had drastically changed everything about her.

"Cami?" I whispered.

Cami looked back up at me, her face sad and pained. "Louis..."

She was staring at me as if I were different too, which I realized I was. The Louis she knew wasn't a wizard.

"You fell for Zayn's trap.. You didn't listen to me..." Cami said sadly.

Before I could respond, Jessie gasped with horror.

"Oh god no..." Jessie's voice was extremely shaky. "Cami... You... You're a..."

I turned to him. "She's a what?!"

Jessie swallowed.

"She's... She's a shifter."

Confusion, hurt, and anger flashed through my mind instantly.

"But-No-Zayn said he stopped it, you said she was dying, that she couldn't be-" I stumbled over my words recklessly.

Jessie cringed. "He stopped her from becoming a full shifter because her body and soul couldn't handle that much power, that much... Darkness... She's a shifter, but a level one one, which means she can only shift into one animal."

I swallowed nervously and glanced at Cami. She stood there, hanging on Jessie's every word.

"And what exactly is that animal?" Cami whispered.

"I'm not sure. We won't know until you shift. It'll be something that reflects your inner self..." Jessie glanced away. "I'm a full shifter, so I can turn into a variety of things, like Zayn. But most shifters are second and third level, so they can only turn into two or three animals. If you're a level four like me, you get your spirit animal, then you train for any others. Many shifters at level four are never able to unlock more than four, currently only three of us have unlocked more. Zayn, Perrie, and... Me. You also should still be able to keep your personality under control, even though you look very... Different."

I finally found my voice and said, "Oh gee, thanks Professor Jessie for that insightful lesson. NOW TELL ME WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED. ZAYN LIED TO ME. AND NOW..." I sucked in a deep breath,"Now I'm stuck in a deal with the damn devil..." I fell to my knees, sobbing.

Jessie put his hand on my shoulder. "We will figure this out Lou. But I should tell you what happened... Joey and his gang started the process of her becoming a shifter, but Zayn finished it. He forced you into a deal and lied to you because he needs you at his side. You're going to be the most powerful wizard in the world. That much was made obvious when you conjured power out of nowhere in front of Joey. That's why Zayn wants you. By using your power without any training or knowledge of who you are, you made Zayn realize that you are one of the Exceptionals."

"What are the Exceptionals?" I asked numbly.

"Well... This is going to be another history lesson..." When I didn't interrupt, Jessie continued. "Your family goes a long way back. They are the most powerful wizarding family to have ever lived. I could tell you names you've heard in fairy tales and bedtime stories-Merlin for instance is part of your family. There's many more, some would make you laugh, but they're all true. Your family has the most potent, powerful wizarding blood ever. You are the Exceptionals. You fight for the good no matter what. You are the only family that doesn't need to use Wands to conduct your magic, you can learn to use your hands, or can call upon it on accident, as you did when Joey captured us, in certain situations. Basically, your family is super important to the balance and order of our world. But you Louis... Man, even Merlin couldn't do what you did at such a young age. You're the most powerful Exceptional to have ever lived, you just don't know it yet."

"I-I can't be...This can't-I'm not even a real wizard yet!" I couldn't even form a coherent thought, too much was happening too fast.

Jessie gazed at me sympathetically. "I know it's a lot, but you needed to know." He turned to Cami. "We need to get out of here."

"Well I don't know if you noticed, but Zayn locked the doors as he went and there are ginormous guards outside. And we can't rely on your status as Zayn's BFF to protect us anymore." I said in exasperation.

Jessie nodded. "I know. Which is why you need to teleport us out of here."

At that exact moment, Zayn appeared in the room. He had a glistening golden crown with blood red jewels atop his head, and he was grinning wickedly.

"Bow before your newly crowed King, because now, I can have everything I've ever wanted."
