Chapter 40

Bella’s POV

Greg looked at me. He had this odd glare in his eyes that I didn’t recognize. It seemed to be a mixture of pure hate and something else. Something soft. Love, maybe? ‘What have you done?’ I asked him. He looked at me but didn’t say a thing. I took one step closer to him and he immediately twisted Edward’s head a bit, making me jump back in shock. ‘Why?’ I asked. ‘Why did you do this?’ ‘Because you belong with ME!’ he all of a sudden yelled. I was so startled that I couldn’t do or say anything. ‘I told you before, but you refused. When I heard that you and this… This monster were getting married, I couldn’t just let that happen. No, you deserve much better,’ he said, looking dangerous. ‘Much better as in you?’ I asked. Greg didn’t respond. ‘How can you be better for me if you kidnap everyone I care about? How can you be better for me if you try to hurt me in the worst way possible?’ I asked Greg. He looked back at me, still not saying a word.

‘Greg, we both know that this isn’t the right way,’ I said as I took a small step forwards. He didn’t react to it and just stood there, staring at me. ‘Edward is the one for…’ ‘NO!’ he interrupted me, stopping my foot in midair. ‘No, no, no! I am the one for you, not him! I was supposed to say I do, not he! It was supposed to be me, Bella,’ he said, looking desperate. I could see the pain in his face, the torture in his voice. He was insane. ‘Nothing is going to change my feelings, Greg. I don’t love you,’ I said, looking him straight in the eyes. ‘You are wrong. If he is gone, it will change your feelings. You won’t be able to love someone who is dead, you will have to pick me!’ he said, a mad smile appearing on his lips. It terrified me. ‘It won’t change a thing, Greg. Edward is…’ I said. I was interrupted by a scream coming from Greg’s throat as he threw Edward as hard as I could into the corner of the cave. It was shaking and he soon was covered with stones.

I screamed as I ran over to him, digging him out of the pile. What if Greg had ripped his head off, what if something had gone wrong, what if… So many images formed in my head that I wanted to block my thoughts. I wanted to stop thinking for a while, just so I could find him. I took another stone away and… There was Edward, laying still. Somehow I knew he was still alive, but it was clear that Greg had done something with him. I quickly uncovered him completely, sat down and took his head in my lap. I looked up, prepared to yell at Greg to tell me what he had done to my Edward, when I saw what was going on.

Greg had tried to get to Jade, but Jacob hadn’t allowed him to. He had changed into his wolf form and now he and Greg were fighting. Jacob tried to bite Greg and Greg tried to do the same with Jacob. Greg somehow managed to deliver a good punch at Jacob and the giant wolf was spread on the ground, quickly pinned down by Greg. The wolf tried to scratch his enemy, bite, kill, but nothing worked. Greg brought his teeth down to bite when… ‘NOOOOOOOOOO!’ I screamed. It was a loud, deafening scream. Greg looked up for a second, just a second, and our eyes met. They were full of sorrow, pain and love. Then his head suddenly was gone and his body felt limply to the ground.

Edward all of a sudden started to move and I looked at him. He blinked with his eyes like humans did when they woke up and it looked really cute. ‘What happened?’ he asked, confused. Greg’s gift probably had been something along the line of making people and vampires unconscious, because it seemed like Edward truly didn’t know what had happened. The other people started to wake up and started to ask each other questions. I quickly looked at Jacob, but luckily he had transformed back to his human form and had found clothes somewhere. He was now helping Jade to get up. When she was standing he put his hands in his pockets, awkwardly looking at her.

Jade stared at Jacob and Jacob stared back. Something in Jade’s eyes changed. It was just a brief moment, almost invisible, but I had seen it. Then, she leaned forwards and pressed her lips right on top of Jacob’s. Jacob, surprised by this sudden move, quickly recovered himself and wrapped his arms around Jade, kissing her back. They stood like this for a few seconds, before Jade pulled away. ‘I am so sorry that I have been such a bitch to you, Jacob. It’s just… The thing with Darren… He has been my rock for so long, and now comes out that he has lied to me all that time. I just couldn’t handle it. But…’ Jacob shook his head whilst he put up a hand as if to stop Jade from going on. She stopped immediately and looked up into Jacob’s eyes. Then, he pressed his lips back at hers, and they were kissing again.

I looked at Edward, who had sat up, and I smiled. The Greg thing was over, Jade and Jacob were together, we were together. Everything was good, everything was like it was meant to be. There just was one thing that I wanted to do. ‘Come,’ I said as I got up and reached out my hand for him. I helped him get up and we left the cave, somehow knowing that the rest of the family was okay. I ran and he followed me, and soon we had arrived at the place I had been aiming to go to. The meadow full of flowers. I turned around to Edward and I looked straight into his eyes. They were a sweet shade of caramel and they showed so much passion, so much love. I was so happy to know that they were mine. I closed my eyes and focused with all my power. Then, I thought “I love you”. I opened my eyes to see Edward looking at me in shock. ‘Did you just… I heard you!’ he said, surprised. I smiled at him before I leaned in to give him a kiss. Just before his lips touched mine, he said ‘I love you too. Forever,’

‘And that pretty much is what happened,’ I finish my story, looking at the sleeping body of a woman. She rolls over once more, facing me this time. ‘You should change it up a bit. This can’t be the exact story, but it can be the basis,’ I tell her, hoping that she will understand.

Then, her eyes slightly open, and I know I have to get out of there. With vampire speed I leave the room and soon after find myself standing on the balcony, next to the open doors.

I hear her stretching a bit as she sits up. ‘I had such a weird dream…’ she mutters to no one in particular. Then, I hear her get up, pull back a chair and sit down. The power of a computer is turned on, and soon enough I hear the sound of someone typing.

You may think, why have I told her my story. Well, this is why. The Volturi has been having problems lately. A few people start to find out about the existence of vampires, and they have to do something about it. With other words, I was send to let a human, Stephenie Meyer,  write a book about my life. She is supposed to alter it so much that it will sound like fiction, so that nobody will ever expect it to be true.

I peek through the doors one last time and look at the title of the document. Twilight.

With a small smile I jump off the balcony and leave. Nobody will ever know that I have been there.
