Nico's POV

Malakas na tunog ng aking cellphone ang pumunit sa katahimikan sa loob ng aming kwarto. Papatulog palang ang asawa ko ng biglang nagring ito. Antok na antok na iminulat ni Ayeng ang mga mata nito, at nakakunot-noong tumingala sa akin. Alas diyes na ng gabi at parehong nakahiga na kami sa kama upang magpahinga ng maaga dahil sa pagod. 

"Hindi mo ba sasagutin ang tawag mo?" tanong nito sa antok na antok na boses saka ulit ito pumikit at inalis nito ang pagkakasandal ng ulo sa balikat ko

I reluctantly reach out for my phone and curse inwardly. I forgot to put it on silence. "Speak!" I snapped in exasperation. 

"Good evening, Mr. Montejano. It's Elizabeth, Sir of the Marine Management department of Korea branch. We have a little problem, sir, regarding the vessel carrying bulks of grains." Biglang dumilim ang paningin ko sa aking narinig. "A mysterious spill of oil about 70 percent has been recovered by Panama Marine Response Corp., which was called out at 6 a.m. Transport of Panama believes the spill was likely caused by a malfunction, noting the vessel was new, which fouled the waters around Panama Bay with less than two thousand litres of bunker fuel," Elizabeth explains and I squeeze my eyes shut as I massage my temple involuntarily. 

"I'll fly tomorrow morning. Get me an appointment to whoever I need to clear this issue and call the insurance company," I ordered coldly. "And Ms. Lambert, let them know that our company will definitely be willing to become part of the repair process until we found where it came from."

"Y-yes, s-sir!" mabilis na sagot niya at saka ko ito pinatayan.

"Are you alright?" saka ko lang naalala na nasa tabi ko pala ang asawa ko. I was suddenly pulled into the dark after hearing these problems. It was six years ago when I encountered this problem because of someone's inefficiency.

"Yes," tumagilid ako para makaharap siya. Pulling her closer to me and place her head over my shoulder, she nestled her face against my neck. "Just some issue from my vessel in Panama. I need to fly to US tomorrow. Would you like to come with me?" tanong ko. I was hoping she will agree. Hinahaplos ko ang buhok nitong makintab at nakapalambot. Ang natural na amoy ng kanyang buhok ay nanunuot sa aking ilong tuwing napapadaan ang mga daliri ko sa malambot at silky nitong buhok.

Bigla nitong binuhat ang ulo at tumitig sa akin. "I'd love to, Nico, but I hate flying. Can I just stay home?" Pagsusumamo nito.  "I want to go fetch yaya Maring, too. Para may kasama ako rito palagi pag nasa trabaho ka," paliwanag nito. Para tuloy akong pinagbagsakan ng langit dahil sa sagot nito. Pero naisip ko, ayaw ko naman na mawala ang anak namin kung pipilitin ko itong sumama sa akin.

"Alright, but please don't go anywhere without anyone with you. Just wait until I get back, alright? I will call the security agency first thing in the morning and arrange a security to stay here and watch you while I'm gone," dire-diretso kong sabi.

Biglang nalukot ang mukha nito. Even with the soft golden glow from the night lamp table I could make up her reaction. The disapproval on her face is too clear. 

"I'm old enough to take care of myself, Nico." Saka nito pinagapang ang daliri nito sa hubad kong dibdib habang ang mga mata nito nakatitig sa daliri nitong gumagapang pababa. "Besides, all I want to do these coming days is to go fetch yaya Maring." Tumingin ulit sa aking mukha saka ngumiti ng pagkalagkit-lagkit. "Since you can't come, Zoey offered to come with me," I knew what she's doing and I'm not agreeing. 

Kinuha ko ang kamay nito na pababa ng pababa saka ito dinala sa aking labi at binigyan ng mabining halik. "Can't you wait until I get back?" sabi ko. I'm so turned on, and her bare legs brushing against mine, it didn't help at all. She's too exhausted and I don't want to burn her out completely.
