Mohit

"Muhurat ka samay nikla ja raha hai," pandit ji warned once again.

I was sitting in the mandap with others around the sacred fire lightened by the pandit ji. Arjun had offered me his sherwani which I happily accepted. It was good to see Aman fully dressed and chatting to Eva. I wonder if something was happening there.

Rutt appeared surrounded by Alisha, Malvika, and her sisters and female relatives. Eva joined Rutt when she saw her approaching the mandap. Pandit ji also slipped a warm smile when he saw the approaching bride.

The girls escorted Rutt to the mandap which represented the home that bride and groom will make together. Once Rutt reached there we prepared ourselves for the Jai mala- the exchange of garlands. Rutt caught me off guard when she made the sudden attempt to put floral garland around my neck. I somehow managed to dodge her. It is believed that whoever put the garland first has an upper hand in the marriage. I knew this fact. Rutt attempted again but being more alert this time I managed to dodge her very easily. Rutt acted sad and made a convincing pout. I rubbed my chin for a moment and smiled, before bending on my left knee. I lowered my head to facilitate her to put garland around my neck.

Some aunty from behind said, "Arey yeh toh abhi se biwi ke aage natmastak ho gaya, aage kya hoga!" Everyone was in splits. Even I couldn't prevent myself from laughing to her comment.

"Aage jo hoga, ladki hi saas hi jaane," another aunty replied.

I don't mind her having the upper mind. I didn't mind it as long as I was with her.

All the family members and friends threw flower petals on us as we exchanged garlands and accepted each other. After the jai-mala, Rutt's cousin tied the end of my scarf to the brides dress with betel nuts, copper coins and rice, symbolizing unity, prosperity and happiness. Her cousin was the same girl in emerald sari.

She looked at me and said smiling, "Hello, jija ji."

"Haha," I smiled back. "Hello saali ji."

The knot was tied which represented the eternal bond of marriage.

Pandit ji now lighted the fire at the centre of the mandap. The fire was weak until he threw some ingredients in the fire which rekindled it. He told us to walk around the fire and then started chanting some mantras. We started mangal phere with Rutt leading me for the first three phere.

I was so happy to see my favorite couple getting married. I wrapped my hands around Malvika who was standing next to me. She looked me in the eyes and smiled.

"I really like this setting. I want a grand marriage for myself just like this one." She whispered in my ears.

"We would have got married here if Arjun had waited for twenty more minutes." I said with a light chuckle.
