Mohit
I was very excited about the night over. We planned it together a week ago. I even bought her few DVDs and her favourite flavor. Malvika opened the door for me. I wasn't very surprised to see her at the door. She was there very often as she was Rutt's best friend. Tonight she didn't look her real self though. She seemed suspiciously silent and self absorbed.
Usually she was a bubbly girl and very talkative. I got in and made myself comfortable on the sofa. Sad-looking and tight-lipped Malvika settled down right across me. There's talking, there's talking a lot, there's talking nonstop, and then, there's her. I mean she was a chatter-box, there was always so much to talk about and so less time.Something was definitely wrong.
"Is everything okay?" I dared to ask. Before she could answer, Rutt emerged from the kitchen with two cups of tea. "Oh, you came," she said. She rested the cups on the coffee table and went back in. "I will make another cup."
I picked up a cup and passed it on to Malvika. She nodded and said, "thank you," which was hardly audible. I lowered my head a bit in appreciation.
The silence in the room was screaming that something was wrong. I picked up the second cup. I glanced at her by the side of my eyes as I took a sip. Her eyes were glued to the floor. My eyes were still lingering over Malvika, in anticipation of a reply to my previous question, but she was rather tight lipped.
When we first met I was like- Oh my God, does she ever shut up? But over the time when I got to know her, I must tell, I enjoyed her company. There was like never a silent and dull moment when she as around. So tonight when I saw her sad and silent I was sure something was wrong.
Shall I ask her again?
Rutt appeared again with a cup of tea and some snacks. Rutt sat down next to me on the sofa. I looked at her and smiled but she was focused on Malvika. Something was definitely wrong.
"Okay... tell me what happened," Rutt asked.
Malvika took a little longer than I expected to start. She cleared her throat before she began. "There is this girl, Neeti Bansal, I know from gym..."
"The one you once introduced me to at Sonam's?" asked Rutt, cutting her off.
"Yes, the same," Malvika replied. She looked at me and started again. "So this Neeti girl started coming to gym with me about three months ago. Okay... she acted all fake and I became friends with her. Then she found out I liked this guy, Rahul. You know...she immediately started flirting with him...she had paid no attention to him before but now she was flirting and even invited herself to his party right in front of me," said Malvika, sipping her tea.
"Did she come to the party?"Rutt asked.
Malvika nodded as she spoke. "Of course she came to the party yesterday..."
"...in the party she flirted with him and gave Rahul her number. He flirted back with her. I could not bear it. I have feelings for Rahul but I don't know it is love yet. I was fine with him choosing her over me. It is his choice and I am fine with it. But I just don't want him to suffer later. So I told him about real her. Neeti seemed to find it out somehow. Later that night while I was in the bathroom she dug through my purse and dumped it out so everyone could see what was in it. And she showed everyone my birth control pills."
"Such a BITCH!!" exclaimed Rutt.
I looked at Malvika in surprise. I always thought she looked pretty. I was wondering why Rahul would choose Neeti over her.
Malvika caught me looking at her. She cleared her throat again, her voice almost shaking, "I have a medical condition and have to take the pill."
"I understand ..." I replied. "I am not judging you." I cleared the dust.
