"Its like 100 degrees here" Riley complained.

"Mhm..." Her mom nodded. "Its 5pm" Riley told her. "Yeah..." Her mom continued to read a book on how to put up a shelf.

"I'm going out drinking tonight..." Riley lied. "Yes..." Her mom continued to ignore her.

"Mom..."

"Mom...Penny!" Riley clapped, bringing her mom's attention back to her.

"I hate when you say my name Riley" Her mom shook her head. "Your ignoring me" Riley sighed.
"Do you want to put up this shelf?" Her mom held out a screwdriver. "Dad should be doing that, but he was too busy...screwing someone." Riley tutted standing up.

"Riley!" Her mom complained.

"I'm going out. I cant stand this heat" Riley walked out the kitchen. "Because going outside is much smarter" Her mom told her. Riley rolled her eyes, as she walked to the large front door. Hard brown wood with shiny varnish or paintwork. Fancy door knocker and letterbox with a small basket behind the door to catch mail.

"I dont want your attitude here Riley. Change it up please!" Her mom shouted from the kitchen. "Whatever..." Riley whispered as she grabbed her skateboard. "Riley, can we please try and start afresh here?" Her dad's voice sounded behind her, as he came down the stairs. Riley turned, and stared at him. "Start afresh? When I dont even know the reason...why we need to start one?" She asked.

"Honey, come on...please. I'm trying here" Her dad sighed. "Try because of what?...Yeah exactly, your guilty about something! I know it, I'm not stupid, and I'm not a damn baby anymore!" Riley sighed, as she opened the door and walked out before closing it behind her.

"Jeez!" She complained shaking her hand, with the heaviness of the pulling the door closed. Looking up at the open neighborhood she sighed before looking down at her board. It was full of bands. Logos, stickers and writing with sharpies.

Walking down the few steps, she then walked out her front yard out onto the main street. Looking up and down, she sighed as she put her board down and started skating.

Heading down the street, she turned and headed down a main road full of palm trees.

Alongside a railing which showed the obvious beach. Sand, water, and people walking around half naked. How lovely.

This sucked, time difference from her friends and severe hot weather. She couldnt deal, she lived in black skinny jeans and mostly black band shirts. For what she was seeing so far, bikinis, shorts, half naked. She was not going to fit in well.

Skating along at a normal speed, she looked around squinting a little with the sun. Maybe wearing sunglasses would be better, block out sun and easy to look at people without seeming creepy.

Turning, she skated down a pathway along a small grassy lane as she continued to be ' nosey ' She spotted an area where it looked like people sat. To enjoy sun? To play cards? Or even make out. She didnt know what people did here.

Someone caught her eye. She stared right at the guy, who was sitting. He had blue jeans on with rips, mostly up his legs and thighs and a tyedye tank shirt. He had earphones in, as he held his phone and nodded his head up and down. With long brown curls following the flow of his moving head.

He looked up, and looked at her before looking away and then looking back.

The both of them stared at each other, before Riley found herself slightly getting out of control. Before she knew it, she was down on the ground and staring up at the blue sky. Not a cloud in sight.

"Damn it!" She complained. Can't this place suck one bit?

"Ugh." She covered her face, before looking at the sky again. Just then someone came into her sight, making her turn and stare. It was the guy with the curls.

"Are you okay?" He asked her, holding out his hand. Perfect, not even in LA a couple of hours before she falls flat on her face in front of people. His accent sounding more strong, as he spoke.

"I'm fine thanks" Riley stood up, without taking his hand. "Oh, okay." He nodded, before he picked up her board and handed it to her. "Thanks" She spoke blankly, trying not to look at him. "Cool logos" He smiled, pointing. One of his earphones hung from his ear as the other swayed around.

"I know, right" She nodded agreeing. "Well thanks, I have to go embarrass myself in front of others" She told him, making him chuckle. "Okay then" He nodded, holding out his hand.

"Feel free to tell others, or even if you got me on video I need at least have the money that you'll get from the views. Extra from the laughing comments" She half grinned at him. "I...wasnt recording" He told her smiling.

"I was...being sarcastic" She nodded, telling him quietly. "I know..." The guy frowned a little. "Yeah okay, bye" Riley nodded, before she began to walk away.

Awkward.
