Bam stood with his arms folded over his chest and watched you walk toward him. He looked angry and you couldn't blame him. You had done the one thing he had asked you never to do again. But you loved walking to the water's edge in the cool of the evenings. The purple and gold sunsets captured your mind and your soul in a way like no other time of day.

As you stepped closer, you saw the set of Bam's jaw and the lines etched across his forehead. Your eyes traveled over the tight muscles of his folded arms and his feet were spread wide apart. That was his power stance. You recognized it well. His face was often hard to read but you studied him and you were learning. Looking at him was your joy. He was as unique and beautiful as the brilliant sunset. Even angry, Bam was sexier than any man you had ever known.

Head held high, you quickly covered the last few feet to stand in front of Bam. His deep blue eyes narrowed in one final scowl before he opened his arms and gathered you to him.

"Really girl?" You felt the rumbling of his deep voice where you lay your head on his chest. "The one thing...the one thing..." You could feel him shaking his head as he chided you.
"Yeah...well...whatever." There wasn't really anything you could say.

Bam had told you about all the dangers from bears to poachers to getting lost in the dark. But you had planned to be back before it was full dark.
"Besides, I have my gun, my knife and my snarky attitude to protect me." You hoped he would laugh at that, and maybe he smiled, but with your head crushed to his chest, all you felt was his arms tighten around your waist.

"Try not to get yourself killed before our first anniversary." He kissed the top of your head and sighed.
"Tomorrow can't come soon enough for me. What fun and exciting things do you have planned for us?"

"I don't know." He swung you around with his arm still around your waist to begin walking with you back to your cabin. "I was thinking you could cook me a nice meal and I would take a nap afterward."
"Dream on, Joshua." You snorted with laughter. "You're lucky you survived the last meal I cooked you."
"Yeah..." He grimaced, remembering. "There's still that dead spot in the woods where I tossed it out that will never recover."

By the time you made it back to the cabin it was almost dark and Bam still hadn't answered your question.
"It's a surprise." Was all he would say.
"I hate surprises." You argued.
"No you don't."
"OK. So I like surprises. But I hate waiting. So tell  me now what the surprise is and I won't steal all your covers tonight."

You wrapped yourself around Bam tightly and hoped you could charm the surprise out of him. Once his mind was made up, it was next to impossible to get him to change it, but you were determined to try. He looked closely at you to see how serious you were about wanting to know the secret and how hard you were willing to try. His cheeks rose in a smile and you instinctively ran your hand along his soft reddish beard. When he nodded his head at you, you thought you had won. Trying not to appear too gleeful at how quickly he caved in to your demands, you gave him a quick kiss on the lips and waited.

"Forget it." He said bluntly and peeled your arms away from him.

Your mouth dropped open in surprise. Bam turned from you and started to undress and get ready for bed. As he began pulling his jacket off, you reached around and quickly zipped it up, all the way to his neck.
"You might want to keep that on tonight, baby. It's going to get cold in there." You jerked your head toward the bed and reveled in the sound of his laughter.

The next morning you awoke to an empty bed and a grumbling stomach. Groaning, you tentatively pulled back the covers, testing the air with your bare toes. The cabin was quiet so you were sure Bam had gone out for the morning. You were so hungry and it was usually Bam who cooked breakfast for the two of you. Scrounging around your small pantry, you found a stack of dried salmon and decided that would have to do. By the time you were washed, dressed and heading out the door, Bam was back.
