Your timing couldn't have been any worse. The last ferry to Juneau left only twenty minutes ago. You hung your head and wanted to cry.
You had gotten stuck talking to some creepy guy who kept referring to himself in the third person; "Gary thinks you look great." "Gary thinks you would have a great time with him."
In the back of your mind all you could think was, "Gary needs professional help."But Gary was tall and broad shouldered and kept blocking your way to the door. By the time you decided you'd had enough and punched him in the nuts and ran, you knew you'd be cutting it close. Too close, apparently.
As you stood at the bottom of the ramp and watched the ferry said away, your emotions flicked up and down like a light switch.
"I could kill that guy for making me miss the ferry." You fumed angrily. "What am I gonna do?" You wailed desperately. "I'm gonna kill him for real." You muttered bitterly through gritted teeth."Hey? Are you ok?" The deep male voice cut through your crazy rant.
"Huh?" You swung around at the sound.
Standing in front of you with a confused look on his face was the last person you expected to see. "Bam Brown..." You sneered and looked him up and down."Oh. It's you." His blue eyes behind his glasses turned to ice when he recognized you.
"Yeah...it's me..." You could barely get the words out without spitting. The rift between you and Bam had been created months before. He was absolutely gorgeous but so maddening. He thought he knew everything and that his way was always the best and only way. And how could that possibly be true? Because it was your way that was always the best and only way.
"I see you missed the ferry again." Bam smiled an irritating half smile. "If you would plan your time better you wouldn't always be running late."
If you hadn't known him better, you would have thought Bam was really trying to help you. But he wasn't. He was trying to tick you off with his kind words until your head exploded."And if you weren't sneaking around town spying on people, you wouldn't know how often I miss the ferry." You said through gritted teeth.
Bam stepped close until his bearded face was only inches from yours. You narrowed your eyes and stared into his eyes. His lips parted slightly and you could see the whiteness of his teeth as his eyes flicked up and down; assessing you.
"I get to be the big spoon this time." Bam grumbled as he grabbed the pack off your back and began leading you to the Integrity.
"You were the big spoon last time." You shot him a look. "Don't you remember?" Bam slid an arm around your shoulder and you slipped yours around his waist."I'm beginning to think you missed the ferry on purpose." Bam smiled down at you. You dropped your eyes and tried to look innocent. But you failed.
"What was your first clue?" You smiled and pulled him closer.
