XIX. The Chase

"How could she be a weapon, you ask?" A man with round rimmed glasses smiled at the only woman in the room. She didn't like the idea after all, just listening to his hissing voice filling her ears was irritating enough.

"You see Konan, the heir has the power to restore-" He paused, "No, that's not even the word.. hm.. ah! Reincarnate. She has the power to defy the laws of nature, death is nothing. She can regenerate life itself.... so, a little of that in war, we'll be unstoppable."

"So you really have this planned, haven't you, Kabuto?" Konan responded with a blank expression on her face.
"That's not all.." This time, Kabuto's smile got a little more wide....evil.. and crazier. "Imagine a whole clan of it under the palms of our hands.. the heir's a woman after all.."

Konan flinched in anticipation, is she thinking what he was thinking?
"You sick bastard." She gritted her teeth.
"You're too nice, Konan. Besides, aren't you part of this plan?"
"Don't get me wrong. I am part of capturing and making use of her ability, but not with your disgusting plan."
"Ahh.. that's right. You're doing this just for him, are you not?"

"Shut up."

That night..

It wasn't like her to lose her calm.

But she couldn't help it.

The Haruno heir was their solution for everything, and this fucking bastard marked her, so as much as she wants to kill him, she had to endure it.
She needed the pinkette for him.

Yahiko... the thought of him was aching.

Her thoughts were back at the scene, bloody red sharingans piercing through her eyes.

"Foolish? Heh." The Uchiha mocked, an evil smirk trailing the curve of his lips. "The only foolish thing I did was thinking of the possibility you'll give out my brother's location. He's a threat, isn't he?" The masked man eyed the woman called Konan who gritted her teeth in response. He was right about one thing, Konan thought, it was foolish for him to even have the slightest trust for Tobi.

Yet, she had never found his brother a threat to her. She had known him, the older Uchiha, and she felt regretful the day she couldn't do anything to prevent him from being severely damaged by the Organization. No one knew where he had gone, no one knew if he was still alive. She felt sorry for Sasuke somehow, grabbing only on a thin rope of hope.

"That's enough, you two." The orange-masked man said gently. "I hardly even think this woman knows anything about her ability." His face darted towards the pinkette, studying her. "...much more even use it." He added to them. "Would you like to know?" This time, it was meant for her, tempting the pinkette to say yes, and somehow, Sakura was urging to say so. Her lips parted and closed once more, hesitation was indeed present, but temptation was something she could control.

A different man started laughing, as if he was sharing his own private joke. His smile spreaded on his face, shadowed by his hood, and the pinkette remembered the story the old man called Sarutobi said a few days ago when the question was thrown.
"Mhmm. I really admire them for their ability." The man who was laughing not a second ago said. "Although, they suck in fighting and skills in the battle fields, almost laughable, and that was the advantage we had. When they turned down the alliance of our clan, they were slaughtered." He said cooly. "From the oldest man on the clan.. to the youngest."

"Yes, and like the story said, someone survived. Ain't that right?" Sakura gritted her teeth, a rummaging fire building up in her mind. Somehow, she felt sorry for the clan who did no damage, but they got killed regardless, all because they refuse to take place on the war. Where's the justice in that?
