VI. Left alone
Sakura looked at the man like he was out of his mind, but the man on the other hand had ignored her and meant everything he said.
He had half expected her to be someone who could heal naturally with no use of medicines and items from the moment she offered help, otherwise he would've been rich for selling a legendary slave.
Sakura was astonished for what the man said, she helped him with curing his wound and this is what she gets in return? What did he expect, a miracle worker? Sakura thought bitterly.
"Let's get something straight here. This is a free country, you can't make me a slave just - just because you killed err - a beast to - uhm save my life." Sakura hesitated with her reason. Well, if you'd ask me that's enough of a reason to be enslaved. Sakura's subconscious said at the back of her mind, clearly not helping Sakura with the situation.
"If you want, I could - uhm - pay you some money. You see, I live in Kyoto, probably not far away from here. I will soon have my job there, so if you do not mind, I want to work and pay my debt." Sakura said breathlessly. That seems to be the only option she had. Though the money would've been just enough for her, it was far better than being sold.
"There is no such thing as Kyoto." The man said, he had been to places, and this woman was telling him she had been washed out on the river, if that was the case, the place Kyoto she was talking about would've been just around the river.
Yet he had already been around the river numerous times.
Sakura couldn't believe him at all, he was hopeless. But a sudden realization had crossed her mind, oh wait I have my phone. Ino! She thought happily with the sign of hope gleaming in her eyes as she scanned her bag. Carrying Snow who was snuggling inside the backpack and finally seeing the phone, she closely held it in her face and pressed on the lock button.
Please turn on, please turn on, she chanted as she remained to press on the button.
Unfortunately, Sakura lost hope when she'd been pressing it for a minute and it still hadn't been open. It must've been broken due to the water. Sighing, Sakura tossed her phone back to the inside pocket of the bag, there goes my last chance, she thought.
"Follow me," The man said suddenly. Sakura looked at him with great dislike as she stood up and slipped on her backpack that was open with Snow's head popping out of the zipper, taking refugee inside.
"If you don't want to help me go back to my home so I could pay my debt to you, fine. I'm going to look for Kyoto by myself, but don't worry, once I got home I will give half of my savings to you plus some of my monthly salary soon and I'll be looking for you here." Sakura said as she was determined to walk out on him and look for it.
The man heard every word she said, he did not understand about what the woman wanted to offer him, though it was clear that she was too stubborn for a slave and too determined for a weakling.
Instead of opposing, he liked the idea he had.
"Fine, leave at your own risk." The man said before he suddenly vanished in thin air.
Sakura's eyes widened as he left her just like that. She quickly scanned the surroundings to check if he appeared somewhere else nearby yet she was all alone with only Snow snoozing in her backpack.
That was it? Well, not like she'll be needing him anyway. She tried to convince herself somehow, as she took sight of the lifeless beast that almost took her life and was saved by a man in the cloak.
I didn't even know his name. Sakura said disapprovingly on her mind as she never got the chance to ask.
Yet, this was her freedom now, and she needs to go back home, as soon as possible. The best place to start would be the river, then. She needs to follow the streams to travel back to Kyoto before anyone started knowing she was gone.
Nearly afternoon when Sakura had reached the river where she woke up, it's not that far from the original spot earlier, yet getting tangled up in the forest paths was the problem, still, she managed to get here and follow the stream.
Checking for Snow on the half opened backpack, the baby little white fox snoozed on top of her first aid kit, finding its warmth.
The sun will set soon and she didn't have much time, she thought of hiding somewhere for the coming night. She didn't want to be a bait as she sleep in the middle of the forest. Even wolf beasts shows up at a broad daylight, how much more once the sun left completely?
Some way or another, Sakura wished she just followed the man when she was commanded to do so, at least the danger of being dinner at the forest wasn't much of a thing to worry about.
There was no guarantee in that, Sakura corrected herself. He could've sold her to a man-beast as well, or to a killer, or someone who would make weird experiments with her and dissect her body. She did the right thing.
Sakura shrugged her arms, and pulled the hems of her sleeves to cover her hands, it was getting cold as the evening was taking over the place.
A jolt behind Sakura had startled her, Snow was awake and was climbing over her shoulder, she caught the baby fox before it fell unto her and petted it, but noticing the looks on Snow, it was looking over the trees. "Snow?" She asked
A sudden howl of wolves had made Sakura jumpy, and worse, scared. She believed she was a brave woman of words, but no matter how brave she is, if her opponent is far stronger and want her for dinner, then that's the end of the bravery line.
This was bad, Sakura thought. It was as if the night was coming fast and she had nowhere else to go. No place to hide.
A rustle on the bush was enough of a reason for Sakura to sprint on her feet. She ran as fast as she could, away from it. Yet looking back, there was nothing.
"Phew, for a second I thought I was being cha-" Sakura's words were cut in mid sentence as she realized the view she had been looking before her.
Three wolves had been looking at her dangerously, slowly coming out of the bush, revealing its body as big as the black beast earlier.
This was really the end of her.
She didn't need to see the vicious beasts attack her or eat her, Sakura closed her eyes and immediately opened again as a thud sound appeared in front of her, facing the wolves.
"Don't close your eyes, you fucking idiot." The man, who Sakura was far relieved to see again, scolded. What is he going to do? Wrestle with the pack of enormous wolves? Is he crazy?
The wolves growled at him yet stopped midway from coming any closer. The man only stayed in one place nor did he say somthing, but what happened next was the wolves gently went back to bush and started running away.
"Why-" Sakura started as she turned to stand beside the man who did nothing at all, yet what startled her more than the wolves was the color and form of his eyes, it was bloody red and depicts danger and negativity around it.
One blink on his eyes and it turned back into his black onyx eyes, causing then pinkette to think that she's probably losing her mind. Not the first for this day.
"You wouldn't last a day here without me." The man said quite arrogantly.
