Chapter 15:

Jax’s P.O.V

I couldn’t believe my eyes. She was licking that guy! How could she. She’s mine! “Luce” I said and I knew my voice portrayed my heartbroken state. I watched as she turned around, surprise lining her perfect features. And that was all it took I couldn’t bare to look at her right now. She didn’t even look guilty. So I bolted back out the door I’d just come through. Ignoring her as she shouted my name. As much as I wanted to give in to her because it probably meant I could have her in my arms. But I couldn’t. My heart hurt and my wolf was pissed. He had never expected to see his mate in that sort of situation with another guy. ‘That’s something she should be doing with us’ My wolf growled in my head and I couldn’t help but agree with him. “Jax. Please. Stop. Let me explain” she shouted desperately. I was actually surprised she was managing to keep up with me, I wasn’t exactly running what you would call slow. “Please” she said and her voice sounded so desperate it was making my heart ache. 

I finally gave up running and stopped. Turning to face her, my face clearly angered. “What Luce. What exactly do you think you can explain” I snapped. She gasped and stepped away from me slightly and I instantly felt bad for snapping at her. “Jax. It’s not what you think” she said desperately. “Oh isn’t it Luce? Then please explain to me how catching my mate with her tongue on another guy is not what I fucking think!” I snapped once more, my wolf’s anger pushing through. Right now he didn’t care that she was our mate and our tone was scaring her, he wanted her to know how angry she’d made him and boy was he really going for it. “It wasn’t. If you calmed your anger and listened to me I’d explain” she said. “Oh that’s freaking nice of you. Why should I calm down Luce?” I demanded and she just backed up. “Because there is no talking to you in this state!” she said throwing her hands up in the air. “Fine. I will calm down. But you will explain yourself” I said simply and she nodded. “Right. Okay. Go on” I said and she nodded. “Basically…he walked through the door and being the childish person I am I threw a cupcake at him, which landed on his face. He then said I had to clean it up and we argued about it for several moments. Then when I tried to escape he grabbed me faster than anything because of his fudging vampire speed. Then he said I either lick it off or he rubs it all over me and well I didn’t fancy being covered in cake so that’s how I ended up licking the cake of his face. It was nothing. Just a joke” she said in a rush. I couldn’t help but growl. “Everything’s just a joke to you Luce. You need to grow up! You have a mate now!” I said simply. “Yeah well I didn’t want one” she muttered under her breath, clearly hoping I wouldn’t hear her. Sadly for her I did. “Yeah well we don’t always get what we want Luce and unfortunately you do have a mate. Me. Now please stop breaking my heart and actually act like my mate!” I said, my heart breaking slightly. I honestly hated arguing with her, it broke my heart. But I needed to make her see. She was my mate and I wanted her in my arms. I just wanted her. Being the mate she was suppose to be. I sighed. This really wasn’t working. 

“What if I don’t want to?” she finally muttered softly. “Your going to reject me? After all this?” I asked, my heart breaking. “No” she said softly and I felt slightly relieved. “Well. Alpha Mathers wants you back in the pack” I say simply. Which wasn’t a lie Damon did want Luce back. I listen as Luce sighs. “Okay. Well I don’t know if I want to go back” she says softly. “Luce. You have to. You are a part of our pack. Your fun and games is over. Now its time to go home. You have been running around doing god knows what for the past three and half months. You need to stop playing around and come home” I said simply and she shook her head. “Luce” I said desperately. Because in all honestly I couldn’t wrap my head around what would make her not want to go back to her family. “There’s nothing for me in the pack anyway” she said simply and I could tell from her tone she was serious. “There’s me, your mate and then there’s Damon and Mya. Especially Mya. She’s been so worried about you” I say hoping the reminder of Mya will help convince her to come home. “I’m sorry Jax. But I just feel like I belong here more.” she said softly, looking at the floor. I really wanted to grab her and shake her. She was making no sense. She was talking about turning her back on her pack! It was madness. “Can nothing change your mind. Make you come back?” I asked desperately. And I watched as she looked thoughtful, her forehead creasing in an adorable way as she thought hard. “How about I stay here for a little while longer, give me a little bit of time with the boys and to get used to the idea of this whole thing while you go home because I’m sure the Alpha needs you being his Beta. That and you can tell them all I’m okay. Then I will come back soon?” she said looking hopeful that I would agree. But to me it felt like she’d torn my heart in two. I just didn’t understand what she needed to get her head around about this situation. And the fact that she wanted to stay with seven guys without me around just had my wolf’s blood boiling. I sighed knowing I would have to give in to her if I wanted any sort of chance with her.  “Fine. I agree to that. I will leave right now. But Luce…” I said and she looked up. “You have a month tops, then if you are not back I will hunt you down and drag you back kicking and screaming” I said seriously. She nodded. “Thank you Jax. I will be back before the month’s up. Goodbye and take care” she said softly. I nodded and hugged her, unable to resist. I felt her tense in my arms which made me growl slightly, causing her to forcibly relax her body. I pulled away and looked at her one more time before walking away. Opening the pack link to tell the few guys I had with me that we were going home. They met up with me moments later and after once glance back to where I’d left my mate. I turned and shifted before running back to our pack land with one thought in mind.
