Chapter 19:

Caleb’s P.O.V

I couldn’t believe what I had learned. It was all making sense now and I was excited to tell Luce what I knew. I stand up quickly and rush out the room, making it all the way to Luce’s room before I remember she’s not here anymore and I can’t help but feel like my heart just tore in two. God I missed that girl. I sighed and turned back around running into Abe. “You forget she wasn’t here too?” he asked and I nodded. “Don’t worry I did the same thing earlier” he said and I smiled glad I wasn’t the only one that was missing her. “I wish she would just come back to us. Infact I’m even tempted to kidnap her” I say seriously. Abe chuckles. “I’m sure she’d appreciate that. Knowing her she’d probably scream rape if we tried to take her” Abe said chuckling. I laughed. That sounded like Luce. “So we up for some kidnapping then?” I said chuckling. “Erm…well as much as I would love to. Being accused of being a rapist is not high on my priority list I’m afraid, so guess I will have to give that one a miss” Abe says chuckling. I laugh but secretly wish he’d agreed. Because seriously I would kidnap her if it meant I could have her back. Bad I know but that girl managed to wriggle her way deep into my heart in the little time she was here. And I didn’t think that was possible. I mean I’m mostly vampire, so human emotions like this are rare. So yes she’d done an awesome job. But now she was gone I was suffering. ‘God damn you Luce! Just come back to me!’ I thought as I turned towards my room and flopped on the bed. I wasn’t laid there long before my eyes shut and I fell asleep. 

Waking to banging downstairs I couldn’t help but wonder what the fudge was going on. Wait fudge? Damn Luce! See even when she’s not here I’m still using her words. “Save me. They want to eat my brain!” a familiar voice screamed from outside my room. ‘It couldn’t be. Could it?’  I thought, as I stood up out of bed. Surely enough, moments later the door burst open to reveal Luce. Who went on to dive on me. Which caused me to instantly grab her so she didn’t fall. Hell I needed to hold her just to convince myself she was real and not a figment of my imagination created from missing her so much. But no she was very much real and very much here. “Luce!” I screamed. “Sheesh any need to shout. My poor ears feel abused now” she whined pouting. “Aww. I’m sorry little slurpie. It’s just…what the hell are you doing here?” I asked her. She looked at me and her lip began to wobble. “Do you not want me here?” she said, her lip wobbling like she was about to cry. “What…no…of course I do! But you…you went back to your pack.” I said confused. She chuckled. “Yes that was an adventure and half.” she said humorously. But I could sense the underlying pain there and I couldn’t help but wonder what had happened. “What happened?” I questioned. She shook her head. “Story time is for bed time and well it’s not bed time yet…so you little vamp fox shall have to wait” she said before jumping down. I chuckled. She had an answer for everything that one. “Well I look forward to story time then” I said hugging her. She chuckled. “Do you think they still want my brain?” she asked me seriously pointing to the door. “Erm…well who wanted your brain in the first place?” I questioned. “Abe and Nathanial. They said they were going to steal it and harness it’s awesome sauce powers so then my head would be mushy” she said seriously. I just couldn’t keep a straight face. I mean seriously, would you be able to if she was saying this to you? Didn’t think so. “Well that is mean of them. Don’t worry I will protect you while we head down to devour yummy things” I said and she giggled and looked at me. A mischievous glint in her eye. “What are you planning?” I question, which just causes her to grin. “Nothing. Honest” she says trying to sound innocent. Note the word trying. I just laugh. “Sure. I believe you” I say and she laughs. “No one ever does strangely. I have no idea why” she says sweetly. “Yes it’s a mystery alright” I say laughing. She scowls at me and I just laugh more. “You know because you love me Caleb…” she begins and I’m not sure I want to know where this is going. But still decide to find out all the same. Curiosity and all that. “Yes?” I question. “Can I have a piggyback?” she asks happily. I nod and she jumps on my back and I grab her legs so she doesn’t fall. And I have to admit I love having her back with me again. Plus I can’t help but feel suspicious. She never I repeat NEVER asks for a piggyback ride. She usually just ambushes one of us. So I’m worried she has something planned. Which with Luce is probably likely. But I walk out the room with her on my back all the same. Whatever she has planned I’m sure I will find out soon enough…
