Andy's pov
After fighting with the doctor for awhile about my smoking habit he finally gave up and said that it's my life and I can make my own decsions. He sounded like my dad when he first found out I started smoking when I was 12. I wish adults didn't think it was such a big deal, I know kids who've been doing it since they were 10. I know it's a bad habit, but that's just it, it's a habit. One I can't break.
After Ade heard about me smoking something seemed off. She seemed uncomfortable. I probably should have told her awhile ago but I mean it's not that big of a deal. I would never do it around her unless she was okay with it. But from the look on her face when she found out the truth I knew that wasn't going to happen.
My mother finally spoke up after a long awkward silence, and informed us that Ade needed to be home soon. We left the hospital shortly after she told us and Ade didn't talk to me the whole ride home. When we got there I offered to walk her to her door step and she kind of just shrugged. What did I do wrong? Why is she acting like this all of a sudden?
Ade and I walked to her door step in silence. When we finally got there she was about to open the door, but I stopped her.
"Ade, what's wrong?"
"What do you mean? Nothings wrong, I'm fine."
"Are you sure? Ever since you found out I smoke you've been kinda awkward."
"I just don't like smokers okay."
"Why?"
"Look, I'd rather not talk about this right now."
"Okay...? Are we okay?"
"Yeah I guess."
She opened the door and semi slammed it in my face. I was hurt. That was the closest to an actual fight that we've ever had. It hurt me to think that my little sister was mad at me.
My mother and I drove home in silence. Until she asked me the million dollar question.
"Andy, is everything okay?""Mom I'm fine. I can't speak for Ade but I'm okay."
"Wait what's wrong with Ade?"
"She hates smokers apparently. That's why she was all quiet during my fight with the doctor and after."
"Well maybe she knows someone who got cancer from smoking. You ever think of that?"
"No, not really. I asked why but she didn't wanna talk about it."
"Some things are just hard for people to talk about."
"Yeah well it's not like I'm her older brother or anything. Shouldn't she be a able to tell me any and everything?"
"Hon you guys just met three days ago. I know y'all are family but still."
"I forgot it was only three days ago."
"Plus she only found out that you're her older brother just yesterday."
"Yeah, yeah."
When I got home I looked at my portaits of Ade sitting on the easel in my room. She looked absolutely ravishing. I never thought I'd be able to draw someone and make it look just like they are in person. I mean how rare is it that you actually meet someone who could draw you and it'll actually look just like you? Must be pretty rare.
The next day I still felt like shit but not as bad as yesterday. I dragged my ass out of bed and got ready. I spent most of the night coming up with conversations with Ade that we probably will never have. I heard my phone ding indication that I got a text.
