Time skip to a few months later
Andy hasn't talked to me since the day I wound up in the principals office. Not a single word. Honestly I'm starting to get use to not having a big brother again. Andy seems happy, he got a new girlfriend, and his band is really kicking off. Ever since the big blow out with Andy I've been hanging with Caroline and honestly it's nice to have another girlfriend besides Gracie. I love Grace, I do, but she can't always be there for me. Especially during school.
Art is always awkward with Andy, we still sit next to eachother, but whenever we have to do projects together we work on our own and figure it out.
Today was different though, I walked into class and see someone else sitting in my spot next to Andy, his girlfriend! What the actual fuck? How can she just sit in my spot? Since when is she even in this class? I saw the teacher stumble into the room oblivious to the fact that I was just standing there staring at the bitch who took my seat. Who does she think she is? I find an empty seat a few seats down from my former one.
Class drags on and on, and honestly watching Andy and his girlfriend sit there and swoon over eachother is making me sick. I guess I stopped paying attention because someone threw a paper airplane at my hand. It was from her. The note inside read:
"Jealous bitch? I stole your brother and your seat, whoops?"Suddenly the bell rang and I made the rash decision of confronting her.
"What the fuck is your problem?"
"Oh sweetie, I don't know what you mean."
"Um, the note? You said you stole my brother and my seat. What's the deal?"
"Well Andy's mine now, he shouldn't sit next to anyone but me."
"What the hell?"
"And don't refer to him as your "brother" He doesn't want anything to do with you."
"Like I believe you."
"Ask him yourself. Bye bitch, kisses."
I rolled my eyes in annoyance back to her as a reply. She's not being serious. She's just trying to get in my head. Andy doesn't hate me. I didn't do anything wrong.
Lunch went by really fast and I realised I didn't say anything all throughout lunch, I just sat there listening to the group. During passing period Mrs. Castro called me.
"Ade, you need to come over right after school. We need to talk."
"Okay... why? What about?"
"Please just don't ask any questions. Just come home right after school."
"Okay?"
"Thank you, bye."
"Bye..."
I spent the last few classes worrying about what she needed to say to me. Am I finally being adopted?
When I got home Mrs. Castro pretty much drug me inside. Her nails were practically digging into my arm.
"Ow, you're hurting my arm." I said while pulling it away.
"Sorry I just really need to talk to you."
"Can Grace be there? For emotional support."
"She's already waiting for us. She heard my phone call and is forcing me to let her be there for you."
"Why do you look so panicky?"
"Because I am, now come on."
We walked down the hall into a room that was pretty much empty, except for Grace and a steel table and chairs. I sat down next to Grace and she grabbed my hand under the table.
"Ade, we believe Mr. and Mrs. Biersack are not your birth parents."
"Why? Isn't it in the system and on my birth certificate?"
"Actually, we don't have yours."
"Then how'd they know how to find me?"
"We figured they were because they talked about how you might have had some medical problems. You do."
"Yeah... but I only have a few defects. It's just anxiety and I was dyslexic. I don't have anything that they could have detected while I was a fetus."
"We know that, but there could have been a glitch in the system. I don't know how to say this and explain why we think they aren't."
"So I don't understand. What does this all mean?"
"We want you to ask either your brother or his parents to do a paternity test with you."
"Andy's not even talking to me, and it would be weird to ask his parents."
"Please just try. If you can't get them to we can always get a court order to do it."
"So... what do I do?"
"I'm going to give you some cotton swabs and tubes that you can put them in. You will take the cotton swab and rub it on the inside of your cheek. Andy or whoever will do the same. Make sure they don't touch or anything okay."
"When do you want this done by?"
"Tommorrow."
"I'll talk to Andy I guess."
"Thank you sweetie."
I looked over at Grace and she gave me the most reassuring look she's ever given me. I whispered a quick thank you in her ear before I got up and left the room.
